Official TFG1Mike Opinion of Scrappy Doo!!!

OK so Steve, Kevin, and I have argued about Scrappy since the release of ToonCast Episode 77

Throughout this debate my arguement has been that Scrappy is just awesome enough said… apparently I need to back that up instead of just saying my word is final on the subject. So reasons why Scrappy is awesome:

#1. He’s a puppy… puppies are awesome and cute!

#2. We covered in Toon 77 that the writers often attempted to want to write more comedic bits into the cartoons. This is why Fred, Daphne, and Velma were either not on the show or always disappeared during the “Let’s Split Up Gang” parts of Scooby Doo. With the absense of all if not just Fred and Velma Scrappy is a nice addition to any Scooby cartoon. Why you might be asking yourself? Am I talking nonsense? Well no….. Scrappy adds a positive vibe to Mystery Inc. He gets Shaggy and Scooby who are the biggest scardey cats on the face of the Earth to finally solve the mystery at the end.

#3 Scrappy and his PUPPY POWER!!! rules, because he isn’t afraid unlike Shaggy and Scooby. There have been only a few times in any Scooby cartoon where I have noticed Scoob or Shag be brave. Those are few and far between. Scrappy actually has brain cells that he uses. Most times he figures the mystery out before Shaggy or Scooby.

I’m not trying to say that I don’t like Shag and Scoob I do, but i don’t see why people hate Scrappy. He is after all Scooby’s nephew and adds bravery to the cartoon!

So in Closing THE OFFICIAL OPINION OF THE GCRN IS THAT SCRAPPY DOO RULES!!!!! I have spoken!!!! …. and backed it up with facts that can’t be argued with!!!!

……..PUPPY POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scrappy Sucks. Outvoted 3-1, and it isn’t official without me so no it’s not the official opinion.

  • http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com OptimusSolo

It most certainly can be argues with. You know the exact same things you said about Scrappy could also be said of characters like…the Copper Kid! But you hate him with a passion. Seems like some hypocrisy going on here!

Hey wait a min here you give me a hard time on Dexter’s Lab and the like and I give you a hard time on Silver Hawks….. I’ve said a number of times I like the cartoon…. but it just aint better than Thundercats. Even Larry Kenney agreed with me on that!

  • http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com OptimusSolo

I am not saying anything about Silverhawks my comment was about your hatred for Copper Kid who displays most of the traits that you just said were your reasons for liking Scrappy.

  • http://www.geekcastradio.com TFG1Mike

I’m sorry but there is no way a unvocalized metal character has the same traits as the super cute puppy power of Scrappy!!

  • http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com OptimusSolo

    From your beloved Wiki:

Scrappy: Has a highly energetic and brave personality, despite his small size, sometimes serves as the brains

Copper Kid: Was the youngest and smallest member of the SilverHawks, often the brave character that would rush into things before meeting with the group and A mathematical genius

As far as design goes puppies are more cute than hard metal looking things from outer space!!

  • http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com OptimusSolo

So you base your like or dislike of a character mostly on design and not actual character traits?

  • http://www.geekcastradio.com TFG1Mike

between puppies and giant metal things yeah lol puppies win out!

  • http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com OptimusSolo

So you don’t like Transformers, oh ok, I get it! LMAO

All puppies? Including the ones who want to tear soemones leg or trouser leg off before even making eye contact with anyone ? How about a Tosa ? Are they cute?
Scrappy is the tag-a-long memeber of the gang that’s just about tolerated.
Give him a concrete overcoat & let him swim with da fishes….

Oh my GOD, Mike! NO!!!! No no no no no no! God dammit no!

Responding to each of your points…

    1. Cute nothing! When was the last time you saw a sickeningly saccarine character improve a TV show? Never! It never happens. People don’t like Scrappy for the same reason that they don’t like Nibbles the mouse, the Smurflings, Bean Bunny, and Wheelie. These are, as Flint Dille would say, WIENER CHARACTERS. Scrappy is a wiener.

    2. The elimination of Fred, Daphne, and Velma (as well as the mysteries) completely crippled the show. What made it work was that the comedic antics of Shaggy and Scooby that broke up the more serious aspect of the show. Taking that serious aspect away was stupid. They took the formula that everyone likes and threw it in the garbage. And to make matters worse, they took the focus of the show off of Scooby and put it almost entirely on Scrappy. Which takes me to your third point…

    3. Remember Poochie from The Simpsons? Scrappy was the character that inspired Poochie. Scrappy is the ORIGINAL Poochie, because everything that was good about Scooby Doo took a back seat to Scrappy.

The only good season with Scrappy was the first one, in which the Mystery Inc. gang was still there, and Scrappy had a much less important role in the show. This let him be a comedic character without taking over the show. He kind of behaved like the chicken hawk. That’s all he should have been.

Just look at the Scooby timeline. He came in for the 1980 season and by 1983, they were already trying to bring the mystery aspect back to the show, because the new episodes that were based entirely around comedy were terrible. There’s a REASON he has never come back for any additional incarnation of the franchise.

That’s why I’m glad in the Scooby Doo live action movie, they made Scrappy the main villain. Overall, I don’t really care for that film, but I will give them props for doing something with Scrappy that was genuinely funny.

You are now officially dubbed WTFG1 Mike, because you stuck up for Scrappy. what’s next? FLIM-FLAM?! Enjoy your new title.
