TFG1Mike’s DVD Reviews:

Justice League: DOOM

Very awesome film, and by far the best JL film in the DC Universe Original Animated Movies. So this was announced, and I thought YES finally seeing Tower of Babel in animated form. While I still have yet to read the actual comic, I thought the adaptation was awesome.

First off you have a JL/JLU voice cast reunion with Susan Eisenberg, Carl Lumbly, Michael Rosenbaum, Oliva D’Abo, Kevin Conroy, Alexis Denisof, and Phil Morris. There’s Nathan Fillion filling the role of Hal Jordan, and Tim Daly reprising as Superman. While I absolutely love Daly’s Superman I think as far as marketing this film as a DCAU Voice Cast reunion Daly’s casting is a failure. Why couldn’t we get George Newbern who actually voiced Superman in JL/JLU?? Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying here Daly as Superman in Doom is great, and I love that he will agree to voice Supes whenever they ask. However I would have liked to hear George Newbern in this film. That honestly is my only gripe with Justice League: Doom.

The animation style in this is great, the music is awesome, the storyline is very fluid. The basic plotline is that Vandal Savage has stolen Batman’s secret plans to neutralize the JLA if they ever went rogue. Batman’s plans are to only take the JLA out of commission temporarily, but Savage and his Legion Of Doom find a way to use the plans as killing devices.

I got the film through iTunes and the features that came with it were:

A Legion Of One: The Dwayne McDuffie Story

Cyborg: His Time Has Come

A Sneak Peek at Superman Vs The Elite

Digital Comic JLA: Issue #43 Tower Of Babel

I loved the Dwayne McDuffie Feature, and I’m sure the DVD and Blu Ray Versions have more features. Overall if you have ever been a Justice League fan, this is a must own. Check out Justice League: DOOM as soon as you can!

  1. I’ve added this to my Netflix queue. I wish they would add the DCAU stuff to streaming again. I know that WB probably screwed them out of the titles with one of their “deals” in recent months, but that’s another topic. I’m glad to hear you liked the film. I don’t want to buy before I watch, so I’ll hold out a little longer. One complaint about your review is: “While I still have yet to read the actual comic, I thought the adaptation was awesome.” How can you have an opinion about the adaptation if you haven’t read the comic? :)
