Mark of the Phantasm Part 4 of 7 “Older Wounds”

Once again the writers and artists telling this flashback story are amazing!!! The “relationship” between Bruce and Barbara was always weird to me, and I’m sure it was weird to most other fans of the DC Animated Universe. I prefer to think it never happened. However with this chapter we find out that it indeed happened. As well as Bruce leaving something behind. I honestly can’t believe that they are going down this route, but I’m loving every drama filled moment of it.

Writing:

So what to say here? Because while I have been writing SPOILER filled reviews of this series, I’m not sure if I wanna spoil this issue. You really do need to read it for yourself. I will say that Kyle and Alec are bringing us revelations that have been a long time coming. This chapter is all flashback, but not to what drove Bruce and Terry apart, but the events that further led Dick Grayson to not trust Bruce Wayne. It’s all very well done, bu I was kinda shocked we didn’t get any of the Phantasm in this chapter. I’m not saying what we got is bad, but you’d think that they’d flash forward to Terry-Batman facing the new Phantasm. After all not much is known about this new Phantasm, if it’s even a new one….? But the events of this chapter lead me to believe something so radical, so out there, so off the friggin’ wall…. That I can’t even bring myself to write it.

Art:

Hester, Gapstur, and the rest of the art team kill it in this chapter! Just as they did in the last one. I will say there are several times where I thought their art on the DCAU characters was a little off, but going back over it, I have to say that it is spot on. They draw and color Babs and Grayson as old, but not as old as Wight did wayyy back in chapter 16. Grayson looks hardened here, and Barbara looks as if she still has a hole in her heart. The art is spectacularly good, and I can’t wait to see more with The Phantasm, Terry, Dana, and Max. I do miss Thony Silas on the book, but this team have really kicked ass with this story out of the past.

With these artists you can really tell that they are excelling at bringing the DCAU to life here in this series!

Final Thoughts:

So Chapter 28 is here, and boy oh boy did it reveal a lot of things from the past. After reading this chapter i’m even more excited for what is coming!!!! You should  go get BATMAN BEYOND 2.0 Chapter 28. This is the fourth chapter out of seven that are dedicated to this arc. It calls back, and builds upon so many things! All within the Batman Beyond Universe, and you won’t wanna miss a second of it! You can find it on the DC Comics App or Comixology or wherever you get your digital comics. Batman Beyond 2.0 continues to go beyond all expectations!
