Review of Darth Vader #3 – Book I, Part III Vader

Darth Vader #3

Darth Vader #3

Everyone knows the theme to the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader! With Marvel now having the Star Wars comics back, they have started a new series with Vader being the main focus! Here’s my spoiler free review of Darth Vader #3!

SW Darth Vader #3 Titles

Before I even start this review, I have to say WOW this was a FAST read for me. As soon as I was turning the first page, it felt as if i had reached the last one. I guess that’s a testament to Gillen’s writing and Larroca’s art. Both are stellar once again. Plus with Edgar Delgado on colors you can’t go wrong. So far we’ve had some interesting things happen. I love the journey Gillen is taking us on with Vader. The greatest moments in this series so far are the times when I feel like I have no clue what they’ll do next.

Writing:

Gillen kills it on the writing here. He sets up the Indiana Jones villain character in Dr. Aphra very well. She even comes with her own EVIL versions of C-3PO and R2-D2 in O-O-O and BT-1! I loved every minute of this story, even though I already stated that it seemed to be over after only turning the first page. I love the way this series is set between A New Hope and Empire. For the simple reason that it gives us more to Vader’s character before his eventual continuous failures in Empire then in Jedi. This also allows Gillen to craft new and interesting characters such as O-O-O and BT-1! I mean cmon EVIL lookalikes of 3PO and R2 that’s FREAKING AWESOME!!!! So Dr. Aphra is the new female on the scene and everything that comes out of her mouth is wonderfully refreshing. It’s an interesting combination of her working for Vader. Vader is the strong all business type, plus he has to reattain his reputation. Aphra seems to be the comical type of character, yet at the same time she’s gonna get done what she needs to in order to impress Vader. Really can’t wait to see what these three new characters do in the coming issues.

Art:

Larroca’s art alongside Delgado’s colors are  what Star Wars is all about! The way Larroca draws Vader, and the designs of the new characters is amazing. I really did get a shiver down my spine when I saw O-O-O’s eyes light up for the first time in this issue. Between the interior designs and the way Larroca makes space look, this is by far my favorite outta the three Marvel Star Wars comics at this point. I am wondering what really crazy action we are gonna get out of O-O-O and BT-1 in future issues!

Final Thoughts:

Overall issue #3 of Darth Vader has me wondering what will happen next! The new character additions have me super excited, and I can’t wait to see what events unfold in the future! Looking forward to issue #4 and seeing where the story goes! You can get Darth Vader #3 from Comixology digitally or any of your local comic shops!

Review Overview

Super Sith Score

"Sadly it's entirely homicidal"

Darth Vader #3 is a fun read, because it takes us through the eyes of a bunch of new characters. We also have interesting story building going on with Darth, Aphra, and the droids!
