FROM THE DESK OF TFG1MIKE! – It Feels Good To Be Helpful

FROM THE DESK OF TFG1MIKE!

TFG1Mike here, and welcome to my NEW personal type blog here in The GCRN. I struggled in whether or not to even do this. I’m still gonna keep it geeky, but I figured getting a bit more personal might be a nice touch. I’m going to be focusing on positive type stuff I see in the world. So today I present to you….

It Feels Good……….

When I can help people. I always try my best in everything that I do, and it doesn’t matter what kind of help. Whether it’s being a sympathetic ear for someone, giving someone advice, or volunteering for a Good Cause!

Since my Mom died a year and two months ago, I’ve struggled a lot. However I’ve also accomplished a lot as well. I’ve had a ton of people help me in the past year, and I cannot thank each and every one of them enough. I’ve been living in my current apartment for almost a year. This complex is for 62 and older or disabled, since I was born with a very mild case of Cerebral Palsy I qualified. The complex is HUD approved, and because of this there are a ton of events and presentations that we have. In the past week we had Humana’s Caresource come out and give information on health insurance, as the rep did this we also had BIRTHDAY CAKE for anyone in the building and those that had birthdays in July. The day BEFORE that, we had someone else come out to do a presentation on getting good sleep. Both were very informative.

We also have the Dare To Care Mobile Food Pantry come to the building three times a year. Since living here I’ve been able to experience this twice. Even with my mild Cerebral Palsy, I’m still able-bodied and want to help out where I can. The first time it arrived in March 2016… I think? .. I went down helped unload the truck it was myself and a number of the other male and female residents. It took us about 2 hours to set it up. Today 7-22-16 as of this writing at 6:30 PM Eastern time we have completed the next Dare to Care for my building. I helped each resident pick out the breads that they wanted. It took about an hour and a half to have 60 of the 100 residents come and get food. Everyone left happy, which made me feel happy, that I was able to help them in some small way.

So it feels good to do things for others. We should always remember that everyone needs help, and if you are the one helping, when you need help, people will remember that you helped them. I might have only done something small by passing out bread to 60 people, but it’s the small stuff we do that really matters. The big flourishing gestures are great, and sometimes when we are able to do them we will. But just making someone smile, or helping someone with something that they feel they cannot accomplish is a good thing. HELP OTHERS BECAUSE YOU WANT TO, NOT BECAUSE YO FEEL YOU HAVE TO, OR BECAUSE YOU EXPECT SOMETHING IN RETURN. When I set out to do something for someone I NEVER EXPECT anything in return. I do it because I want to help that person, or multiple people. So if you can do something nice for someone, without expecting anything, and Karma might just do something nice for you one day. It’s when we least expect it that the nicest things in life happen.

Check out my next blog in a few days when I’ll talk about being a Geek, and being in a Geeky Relationship. Thanks for reading. I’m gonna transform and roll outta here!
