The Muppets

Back in the 80s as I was growing up, I remember watching The Muppet Show in reruns. My favorite segments were Pigs in Space, Bunsen and Beaker, and The Swedish Chef. I loved the backstage antics with Kermit, Scooter, and all the gang. The muppet Show was endearing, funny, and just amazing. As a kid I always kinda tuned out the musical numbers with the guest stars. I dunno why, I just did. However when the Muppets did musical numbers I loved it.

Even after the show was no longer running on the air, the movies were awesome! There is really only one film in The Muppets franchise that I do not like. That being Muppets In Space. I mean Gonzo is a okay character, but he did not need his own story.

I believe since about 2009 The Muppets have had a huge resurgence on the internet. With stuff like Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody, and The Swedish Chef videos on YouTube. Then there was the announcement of the new film FINALLY!!!! I recently rented The Muppets on DVD through RedBox, and absolutely loved the film.  Well I loved it for the most part, there was one scene that I didn’t care for at all.

Keep in mind what I’ve said already, some of the musical numbers just aren’t for me. Man Or Muppet was the one scene that I absolutely did not care for. Call me crazy, but it just wasn’t for me.

Other then that, this film is awesome, they manage to even fit a Sesame Street reference in! I am not to sure if the producers and Jason Segel remember the film A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, because the 2011 film, and that film are the EXACT SAME PLOT! OK well there are differences, but basis is in Very Merry Miss Bitterman has the contract to the Muppet Theater, flash to 2011 and Mr Richman has the contract. Sure there’s the added love triangle between Gary, Mary, and Walter, but take those characters out of the film, and it’s A Very Merry Muppets Christmas.

While the general plot is similar, there are plenty of differences to make this one of, if not the best muppets movie ever. The fact that Animal is in Anger Control classes, Fozzie and His Fart Shoes, Scooter at Google, and more. Everyone who has ever been a fan of The Muppets should see this film. There’s just so much to love about it, and I didn’t even hate Gonzo. Usually Gonzo is my least favorite Muppet. Even he rocked in this one.

I didn’t talk about the bonus features, as the RedBox version is just a bare bones DVD.

Overall Rating 10/10
