Original Television Miniseries Soundtrack

John Debney has put together a very time fitting score for the television miniseries Boonie & Clyde. Here’s a review of the music from this three network, two night TV event.

FIRST OFF BEFORE I EVEN START this review I have to THANK La-La Land Records for sending this to me. It was included with the Lethal Weapon Soundtrack Collection that I had requested to review for them. I had no idea they’d be sending this along with it.

I first heard about the Bonnie & Clyde two night event when I was half asleep watching old Storage Wars episodes on A&E. After watching the two night event December 8th and 9th…. I said to myself wow I want to hear that music by itself. Guess that wish has come true right? John Debney has had an amazing career composing music, and I really enjoy a lot of his works. If you look at Debney’s Filmography, you’ll see he’s either composed or been a part of composing some awesome films, and even a coupla video games! So when I saw his name on the screen as the composer, I knew I had to have this score!

Debney elegantly captures the feel of the roaring 20s and 30s, with high octane musical scores, and low emotional moments in the music. There’s always been something about this era of music that I have had a secret love for. It’s not even about the western feel, it’s more so the high action and energy that the music of the 20s and 30s had. Take track 11 for example. It’s 1:03 in length, and it’s called “Playing for You” this is from the scene in the miniseries where Clyde was playing the sax for Bonnie on stage. This simple 1 minute track fits in so well with the anthemic and big horns that the other tracks have, or the soft fluted emotional tracks that are on the disc. It just shows that Debney has a real love for this era

I’ve listened through all 28 tracks on this disc twice, since I started writing this review. I have to say my favorites are the first 5 tracks, tracks 8, 11, 13, 14, and 24. I highly recommend that you watch the miniseries, and then listen to this music over and over. You will not be disappointed at all. Love the low eerie tones at times that Debney uses as well. Makes the score very spooky.

Overall I am very happy that the fine folks at La-La Land sent this to me, this is music I’ll be listening to for a long time! This score is nothing short of being a perfect score for the “film” it’s attached to.

What I love about these La La Land Records releases is the liner notes that come with the albums. Not only do you get cool images from the project, but you also get insights from the people crafting the music. That is just a nice little addition that this soundtrack company does!!

You can get this awesome score from LA LA Land Records directly! You can also find the track listing there!
