  1. Broadway plays aren’t sold on DVD often because it would hurt theater sales. Theater companies make a lot more money keeping the show exclusive to the stage. When people can only see a show live they are more willing to shell out more money to buy a ticket. On occasion shows do show up on DVD for sale but its rare and its usually special anniversary shows. For lighting, acting, sound, etc… is a lot different on stage than it is for a movie or TV show. A lot can be lost in translation. That’s why a lot of people that hold rights don’t allow their shows to be sold like that. Most all are filmed, but their quality isn’t really good enough to buy. And to be honest a lot of play rights and directors want the show to only be viewed the way it was intended.

There are some exceptions. There are things like Fathom Events that will have live broadcasting of different plays and PBS has broadcasts as well. Usually though those are well established Broadway shows that have already made a ton of money.

    1. thanks for the info. I just wish act of god would show up the original with parsons or at least on youtube! the broadway run is over and sadly sean hayes took the role to LA ugh

    2. But still it’s odd. Yes during a shows run you’d keep the performance theatre exclusive. But after a shows finished its run why not distribute especially over seas where some will never get to Broadway to see a live show

  3. So Steve are you going to school for film? Weird you have to watch so many movies during class. Seems like a lazy way to teach in my mind. I get it if they are using the movie as a learning tool to show examples or provide context but to just show a movie like that is lame imo.

My question regarding the style choices is are you going in you are not going to like it, and if you aren’t really paying attention to something can you say its boring? I know watching some movies with my girl friend she is on her phone half the time or doing other things, and then is like, “That movie was boring!”. And I’m like how can enjoy any movie when you aren’t paying attention to it.

    1. Yeah I am going to school for media technology but film and tv are the primary concern to me. The editing I know from doing podcasts and personal projects. Sound is same situation so those weren’t what I need work on. The documentaries I feel are lazy teaching. Those should be homework and then actually learning in class. My main gripe is these classes right now could easily be online courses. The 20 minute example ones for the aesthetics are useful but the 1-2 hour documentaries I find extremely tiresome to sit through in one viewing and not doing anything during this time.

I really attempt to see what the show is when I sit down. Some I enjoy and others not so much. I zone out from the world when I watch tv or films. So I have complete interest in what I am watching. My wife at times does that and wants me to explain what happens lol. I try my best to pay attention but if somethings start adding up it’s more a culmination of things that cause my disinterest overall than just one or two things. Then again I don’t like having to think real hard unless I’m watching a super hero or sci-fi program. Anything else I can easily shut my mind off. I enjoy obvious comedies and sometimes off the wall ones but mostly ones I don’t need much to take in. I get to the end of the day and am usually exhausted so thinking is one thing I like to turn off during a show. I really do try to pay full attention even when I don’t know what I’m trying. I sometimes during shows I watch get bored and play with the phone until that part is over. So I get the asking my thoughts on why it’s boring or not.
