  1. I had to pause the podcast when you started spoiling Reboot: The Guardian Code. I had just started watching it after hearing another podcast’s positive reviews of it in comparison with the old show. I had listened to Steve’s review of the show a while back, as well, but I had not checked out the show.

So, I started checking it out and I found that I actually liked it. There is more CGI animation than I expected, and less of the teen drama than I expected. The CGI is actually quite good, but still in the same style as the original series. The live-action bits are handled well and there are some genuinely humorous moments. The tenth, and final, episode of season one brings in some other characters, which I did not expect. While the trailer for the show looked pretty bad, the show is actually decent and I believe fans should give it a chance.

Steve, did you get access to the second season? There are some things you said before I was able to pause the podcast that did not happen in season one.

    1. Sorry about that Tim! Didn’t mean to tease things. I have seen through Season 2 and although I spoiled things, a lot of it I predicted would happen based on the writing.

While I enjoy the CGI bits (Which were done with the Unreal Engine), the live action bits are lacking to me in writing and too cliche’. Not saying the original didn’t have it’s moments, but the new show is not even the same style as the old one is. Actually has nothing to do with it outside of the name, Episode 10 and Megabyte and Hex. The story isn’t even continued from it. There’s a lot missing from original to “reboot”.

I believe it’s decent on a whole but not what I was hoping for. A lot of the positive reviews I’ve seen and heard have actually come from people on the production itself and have actually yet to see reviews by anyone outside of the show. Most of the reviews I’ve seen have been written and video where they’ve destroyed the show.

Is any animation perfect? No. But I do feel like this show missed the boat on quite a few things that could have actually made this really stand out.

      1. I didn’t grow up with the original, so that probably makes a difference, as I am not familiar with the original story. The original was on Netflix a while ago and I only watched a few episodes. I know it has a loyal fanbase, and that a lot of them didn’t like the live-action bits being mixed in. The trailer was pretty bad, but it didn’t accurately portray the style of show it is, IMO. I’m surprised I enjoyed it because after seeing the trailer I was not intending to watch it.

        1. It wasn’t necessarily the live action, it was a lot of the premise and that they tried to tie it to the original but it clearly fits nowhere in that universe if tied to the original. So it should have been a clean break or a continuation from the start. I actually edited out the human aspects of Season 1 which cut the running time in half and made it 2.5 hours of CGI content. I’m a fan of the original and while aspects of CGI were lacking in those days it still seemed better written than this. The creator of the show even tried to network with the fan base and then changed it, crapped on the fanbase and then went to recreate a show he made that flopped using the ReBoot name.
