  1. First liking the new name and look of the podcast. An improvement on both ends. Funny how I was having a conversation with my friends the other day about how long movies have gotten over the last few years. Especially summer blockbusters. We were talking about going to see Avengers again but its hard to find another 3 or so hours to see a movie you already saw again. I have come to love 90 minute movies. Its like a type of relief. Not saying all movies should be 90 minutes. You can’t do Lord of the Rings in 90 minutes, but the amount of stories that need longer than 90 minutes are few and far between if you ask me.

  2. A movie should be as long as it needs to be IMO. Are there movies out there that are too long? Yes. But I don’t think it is a simple as assigning a general length. There are movies that are two and half hours that could be longer and be a better movie. I think Avengers AOA would have been better if it was longer and expanded upon different plot details. Then you have movies that are less than two hours that maybe should be even shorter. So its hard to say. Although if I see a movie that is 80 minutes or less I tend to think its probably not going to be any good.

    1. I second that. I hate when people review a movie and they take points off just because its long. You aren’t telling me anything I didn’t know just by looking at the run time. A movie shouldn’t lose points for going over 90 minutes.

  3. I loved Slow West with its careful meditative pacing, which was punctuated by tense gunslinging, S

Almost every character from the film is from another country. And we get a fresh glimpse of the desolation and cruelty of the American frontier. It is beautiful and brutal all at once, and the question of who to trust is the most important survival question of all.

The photography is stunning. It’s such a good looking film, and it’s a bonus that the story kept me engaged as it travels with the characters through these panoramic vistas.

I can see why it was not everyone thing. But for me its in my top 5 of the year so far.

    1. it was beautiful to look at for sure. Just not enough to actually chew on. Thought it was way too simple and paper thin honestly. Not a bad movie but no way would it be in my Top 10 so far…

      1. Yes if you are unfamiliar with Westerns Slow West may appear paper thin, but in reality it is doing a lot. There is a brilliant touch of noir to play off the engrossing western setting. For example the relationship of Fassbender and Smith-McPhee is set up as a classic Western partnership but travels down a different path. The typically final bloody shootout is perfectly
juxtaposed with idyllic weather, a creative homage to Leone and Peckinpah. It’s littered inventive and subtle takes on many of Ford, Man, and Sturges directing inventive directing styles. All that in this allegorical cautionary tale of the treatment of the unknown and one and the devastating effects of viciousness. There’s a lot of complaints you can throw at Slow West, but the paper thin argument is rather weak when you look beyond the surface level.

        1. I love westerns actually – just didn’t think there was enough to chew on here. Tombstone if probably in my Top Ten of all-time

    2. I will say I saw Slow West this weekend and will be talking about it on next week’s episode.

      1. Very much looking forward to it. I didn’t hate the film by any means, I just was a little underwhelmed but I know this will most likely be one of those films this year that I am in the minority for

    1. There is an internal issue with the feed due to some difficulties. We are also awaiting the almighty iTunes to get off their arses and change the link too so there’s that.

EDIT: I fixed the issue but still a temp fix until they do what is needed to be done.
