  1. I’m glad to have more POGS to listen to. You guys are great at this and I appreciate the analysis you put into the shows. Since I have only watched The Sea Hawk I will only comment on it at the moment.

This is why I like some of these older 80’s cartoons; they have actual stories. Sure, they may be pushing morals, but that’s what kids need. Too many of today’s cartoons are just random nonsense…just look at Cartoon Network. Anyway, there is actual story here…in a cartoon meant to sell toys. I’ve been watching other cartoons while you’ve been on break. Plus, I keep up with a few current animated series. Watching She-Ra, of all things, was like a fresh breath of air. The story here was well-structured. It was paced well. Everything fit together and made sense. We have adults and fantastical characters interacting with each other and everything flows. Kevin mentioned that Adora is suddenly missing from the ship and She-Ra is present. To that, I would suspect that since people know of her and that she has Swift Wind, the flying horse, people will know she can get anywhere quickly, even onto a flying ship. And, yes, the horse is often called by its nickname, Swifty.

I like Sea Hawk as well. He is a Han Solo allegory, but that’s what a lot of writers did back then, just as they do now in animation and otherwise. As long as it plays homage to the material and tells a good story of its own without being pure fan service, I don’t mind it. And I had no issue with it here. Sea Hawk is that classic character we are suspicious of, but come to like him because we know he isn’t all bad. I suspect we will see him again in the series, and that is just fine by me.

    4 Protection Swords :)

  3. Better late than never.

The Red Knight sort of annoyed me. I did like his voice, and the mystery surrounding him, but we didn’t get closure on that? I hope they return to this soon so we find out who he is since they hammered at the idea that he is familiar. And I felt it was unfair of him to use his Lance against Bow and the others during the competition. Because of the failure to bring closure to the mystery and him basically cheating during the race, I give this one 2.5.

I had the same issues with The Missing Ax that Kevin brought up. Axes are not toys. Children should be supervised with them. And secondly, they laid the axe down. It wasn’t their fault that some trolls came along and took it. The kids returned to the spot they left the axe, so I don’t feel they were at fault here. Sure, they didn’t keep it in their sights, but they didn’t seem to be gone long. And I can’t remember why they left the axe there. There is a lesson here, but they didn’t quite write the episode in a manner to make their point without bringing up other issues of greater concern. Rating: 2.5

Finally, The Prisoners of Beast Island. I’m glad to see dragons. But this dragon?! His name is Sorrowful, first of all, which is a terrible name. If this is all the better they can do, then they need to leave the dragon stories to Larry. Still, this was my second favorite episode this week. Thank goodness they actually showed us the creatures that were imprisoned. At first, I thought we were only going to see their flailing arms coming out of their cells. Rating: 3.0.

There was some good animation on Cowl during either Red Knight or Missing Ax. I noticed it because it was very fluid and not your typical posing of a character. So that was good to see. The Ax did get larger in some of the animation shots, as Mike pointed out. And I think Cowl did too at times. It’s just a flub on the animators parts, and Lou probably didn’t want them to spend the time to go back and fix it. :) Oh, and Catra’s symbol on the tanks. I noticed that, too, Kevin. It was easy to overlook, I suppose, but it immediately stood out to me. I was surprised to see that. I would expect the Horde emblem to be there.

Now I need to catch up on episode 49’s episodes for review.

    1. So glad we didn’t lose you during the hiatus. Always love hearing your takes on the episodes along with ours! Keep listening man!
