  1. I agree with Mike regarding “The Shaping Staff” which was not one of Paul Dini’s best. I expected more from the episode when I saw his name on the writing credits. While not a terrible episode, it was nothing great. And as Mike mentioned, it was rather predictable, as I too knew it was Evilyn in disguise all along. I was surprised by Beast Man being the King, but as Kevin said, he was a poor choice to play the role. The shaping staff itself was okay as a weapon, and changing Orko to a cricket was sort of interesting. But there were some oddities to this episode. I, too, noticed the difference in the Queen’s voice. Let’s hope we don’t see/hear that again in future episodes. It really struck me because I wasn’t quite sure, but I didn’t think that was the same voice actress from other episodes we had seen. Rating: 2 Orkos

I’ll listen to the rest of the podcast and maybe comment on the other episodes later.

Oh, a quick note about the BCI DVD box sets. I am glad to hear that Mike completed the collection. I have them all sitting in my cabinet, visible so that the mural can be seen on the spines. I’m missing the last She-Ra box set, which is still rather expensive if you can find it, and I have the three volumes of the 2000’s series. I wasn’t aware that there was more mural on the box set of that series, which I have actually only seen once. I believe the individual volumes I have are from that set but I got them individually rather than all at once in the box with the mural on the spine. Darn. Well, at least I have them. It’s still better than the cheap complete series set they put out with discs in sleeves.

Yeah it was a Best Buy exclusive when they originally came out. Thanks for listening!

  2. “The Cosmic Comet” for me was sort of lackluster. It had its moments. Zagraz was okay. I like seeing new characters introduced. It helps expand the universe of Eternia to see other characters living there. I liked that the plot involved Zagraz’s past failure and his reluctance to overcome it. But as Kevin said, the comet giving power to the evil members of Eternia was lost on me. It didn’t make much sense. Still, I accepted that because the larger part of the story was really about Zagraz. Then we learn the comets were in love. And they talked.

By the way, I also find it funny that He-Man calls people names. It doesn’t seem right. Watching it now I am still surprised that he does this, as it sets a bad example for kids. Still, it’s funny. He-Man calls Skelator and his henchmen, “Fur-face,” “Bone-head,” or even, “Loser?” It is also funny when He-Man has some snarky comments. Like when the two evil-doers were in the mud, “Just be sure you wash up first.” Rub it in, He-Man. Accompany that with John Irwin’s delivery and I’m laughing out loud.

I enjoyed the episode, so I’ll rate it 3 Orkos.

    1.  Yea I agree it always strikes me as odd when He-Man resorts to name calling and making fun of the characters. I find it ‘wrong’ but at the same time I find myself loving it haha!
