  1. Let me rate the first two episodes of the podcast because I really want to focus on the third. The Littlest Giant – 3 Orkos. And I agree that Attack From Below wasn’t that good. Yes, it is a re-used plot from other stories, which I don’t fault it for too much, but it didn’t have any moments to make it a standout episode, so 2 Orkos.

Now, Into The Abyss. We are definitely not seeing eye-to-eye on this episode. Finally we get a plot that isn’t just the same ole tired story, and Mike doesn’t like it? I know you guys are not fans of Teela as a character, but this was an excellent episode, above average, by far. And had the writer’s original ideas not been thrown out to save money (you know that’s why they were tossed), it could have been even better. They tossed out the vine swinging because it would have cost more to animate than using stock footage of the characters walking or running. In fact, that’s probably why the game Teela chose was hide-and-seek. Mike missed the point, however, which was to use a game to have fun doing something productive, but make it fun. It was an exercise in tracking, not just playing hide-and-seek.

Then we get the drama of Teela falling into the abyss around Grayskull. While trapped down there, Adam transforms into He-Man. First of all, there is a shot of Adam holding the sword in front of the mood, covered in shadows, which was beautifully done. But the real treat is what happens in the abyss when he transforms. Sparks are shooting upwards out of the abyss and Teela wonders what is going on. At first, I was wondering if she might somehow link He-Man or Adam to the event. Getting to see this occur and explain part of He-Man’s powers was interesting to see as a viewer.

But we’re not yet done with continuity. As Teela senses the comfort of her mother, we get the Sorceress looking down upon her daughter and saying some heart-warming, yet not-too-cheesy words in response, but not audible to Teela. We need more moments like this!

Also, it had one of the funniest lines in a while. As He-Man warns Beast Man to run off in ten seconds or else, Beast Man mutters how He-Man will regret ever having heard his name, to which He-Man responds flippantly, I already regret having ever heard your name.

Oh, and as Mike pointed out, then there’s the scene with Adam and Cringer napping under the tree and Teela is giving him a hard time. Adam just outright tells her off. I didn’t expect that. It had a very different tone than what we’re used to when they have their spats.

Good job on the writer’s part here for coming up with something different, or at least a way to tell a good story without a bunch of cliches or via a tired plot. The dialogue was good and I enjoyed it tremendously despite there being no “big bad” to fight. This is one of my favorite episodes of the series, and particularly of season two. Rating – 5 Orkos!!!
