Kevin’s Lists: Top 10 Movies of 2010

I have given you my lists of Top 50 movies for each of the past 3 decades. I would have gone back further but it would probably be an impossible task for me to come up with 50 good movies from the 70s or any decade previous to that. However, 2010 begins a new decade and as each year passes I will come up with a Top Ten list from that particular year. That way when the decade is over it will be easier for me to come up with my Top 50 :)

I obviously have not seen EVERY movie that came out this year so as time passes the list may have some minor adjustments. So far I have seen 21 movies that came out in 2010. They are ranked as follows…

#1: The following movies were not eligible to make my list due to the fact that I have NOT seen them yet :( I will be trying to watch these movies one by one through [Netflix] so each one will have a chance to break into my Top 10 as time passes.

Black Swan, The Tourist, Tron Legacy, True Grit, Tangled, Toy Story 3, Love and Other Drugs, Red, Life As We Know It, Wallstreet: Money Never Sleeps, Takers, Jonah Hex, The American, Burlesque, The Company Men, Eat Pray Love, The Expendables, Grown Ups, How to Train Your Dragon, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Kids are All Right, Scott Pilgrim vs the World and Shutter Island

#2: The following movies I DID see but did not have what it takes to make my top ten.

Kick-Ass, Valentine’s Day, Alice In Wonderland, Hot Tub Time Machine, Clash of the Titans, Iron Man 2, Twilight:Eclipse, Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows Part 1, and Unstoppable

And Now for the List…

The Top 10 Movies of 2010

——————————————————————————————————–

#10: Edge of Darkness/A-Team/Robin Hood

For the first time ever I am calling a tie in one of my lists. I will have to re-watch some of these to make a determination as to which one deserves this spot over the others. Edge of Darkness was Mel Gibson doing what he does best, being a badass, Robin Hood is just a story I have a soft spot for and A-Team may have been one of the most fun/entertaining movies of the year.

#9: Date Night

Steve Carell and Tina Fey are hilarious in this movie which, no pun intended, was probably the best ‘date movie’ of the year.

#8: Despicable Me

I know I didn’t see Toy Story 3 so take this with a grain of salt, but Despicable Me is the best animated Movie I have seen since probably, Ratatouille. The minions are hilarious and the character of Gru and the way his voice was done had me quoting lines from the movie all summer. This movie does not get old, I enjoyed it the third and fourth time just as much as I did the first time!

#7: The Other Guys

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg were a great team in this movie. This was the best comedy I saw this past year that also included some jaw dropping moments thanks to Samuel L. Jackson and The Rock. Will Ferrell delivered yet again in this one.

#6: The Fighter

I am not usually a big fan of boxing movies or sports movies in general (unless its baseball) but this movie was more than a boxing movie. Easily Christian Bale’s best non-batman role in the last decade. This movie does a good job of just giving a realistic look at the lives of these people and the struggles they faced.

#5: Social Network

I know a lot of people ‘refused’ to see this for whatever reason but this movie was much better than I expected it to be. Andrew Garfield stole the movie for sure and it was just a great look at the inner-workings of the most popular website in the world. Very interesting film.

#4: Salt

I did not see this one in the theatre but man I wish I had. Angelina Jolie is amazing in this film and it definitely has some unpredictable twists and turns. Great plot, great action, great movie.

#3: The Town

The 2010 version of Heat. Ben Affleck actually did something great with this film for a change. This movie was just epic in so many ways, unbelievable maybe for a few moments here and there but this may be one of the best ‘heist’ movies of all-time.

#2: Book of Eli

I know a lot of people wouldn’t include this in their best of list since it came out in January but that logic has never made sense to me in the least bit. It is a best of 2010 so all movies that came out in 2010 should be eligible but thats another story. Book of Eli was probably my personal favorite movie of the year. Absolutely classic Denzel Washington performance along with a very unique plot. This movie had all the action you could want along with actually making you think a little bit.

And the Best Movie of 2010 goes to…

#1: Inception

Let me start this by saying this movie was NOT as good as I was actually hoping it would be. I was hoping for a movie that would have a possibility of being one of the best movies of the last ten years and instead I got a movie that was only good enough to be the best movie of this past year. That being said this movie was definitely one of the most unique movies of the year. It does require you to have multiple working brain cells to follow it so some of you may be out of luck but it is definitely intense and will keep your interest from beginning to end. As much as this pains me to say this, even Leonardo DiCaprio does a pretty good job in this movie. If you haven’t seen it yet you need to watch it immediately.
