Larry Hagman In 'Dallas'

You might find this hard to believe, but I was watching Dallas the original series, from the age of eight through twelve. As I’ve stated in many of the podcasts, my mom let me watch anything. Dallas was always one of my favorite shows. Sadly on November 23, 2012 Larry Hagman, better know as J.R. Ewing passed away. Most everyone knows of the villainous JR from the TV Show Dallas, and here I will give my thoughts on the character.

JR Ewing Old

Watching Dallas growing up was amazing. Seeing all the schemes and cons JR Ewing planned and plotted. He is one of televisions most beloved villains. The reason for this is that JR can talk you into loving him. Every time I saw Larry Hagman over the years since the original Dallas, it was always in character as JR. From the now infamous Who Shot JR campaign, to the dealings with Cliff Barnes, and even fighting his own brother Bobby. JR has stood the test of time. With the new series on TNT, as it’s a continuation of the original, you have JR, Bobby, and Sue Ellen Ewing back. With John Ross and Christopher all grown up, and the fighting begins again. JR is out to teach his son John Ross, everything in his bag of tricks. However JR’s bag of tricks is very large, and he doesn’t share everything with John Ross. It will be interesting to see just how the writers plan to kill off JR, and what tributes will be made for his character, and the man, the myth, the legend who played him, Larry Hagman.

Final Thoughts – The Future Of Dallas:

The future of the world of Dallas without JR Ewing might be dim. Or some people might think that. However JR will be going out with a bang in the new series, as Larry Hagman’s character is killed off for good this time. The passing of Mr. Hagman has left many JR fans saddened. I am definitely one of them, from 1978-1991, and 2012 into 2013 Larry Hagman as JR Ewing has left a lasting impression on all TV watchers for the past 35 years. He will be missed!

Dallas can, and will go on after JR, the writing on the new show is sooo damn good, and the legacy of Dallas will always be with us. Catch the promo to Dallas 2×07 The Furious and the Fast below:
