What You Need to Know Before You Get a Tesla

With more of a focus than ever placed on the benefits of going green, the Tesla brand has gotten a lot of hype for its innovative take on electric cars. While making the shift away from fossil fuels is a great move, there are some things that you should consider beforehand to make sure you’re prepared. Read on to learn what you need to know before getting a Tesla so that you can set your sights towards the future!

They Have Certain Needs

Getting the Tesla car itself isn’t the only step you’ll need to take in order to make the shift to electric transportation. One of the biggest changes you’ll need to make is to install the proper charging station in your home. Tesla cars require wall connectors to charge, which will need to be professionally installed. Additionally, you’ll have to purchase other technology if you want to integrate your car and home together into the futuristic Tesla Smart System that offers features such as increased energy efficiency and home surveillance from your car.

The Tech Isn’t Perfect (Yet)

Tesla cars are pretty much the peak of auto innovation, but with that comes the risk of certain features still acting buggy. Some Tesla drivers have reported issues with the window controls, as well as with the falcon doors opening on their own—or refusing to open at all. There have been reports of some problems with the autopilot. Specifically, the autopilot feature doesn’t detect cars that aren’t in motion—or stop moving for them. However, while the advanced autopilot features will need some fine-tuning, the current system is certainly a step in the right direction.

You’ll Need to Plan Ahead

Tesla cars boast long battery lives and astounding efficiency, but you’ll still need to recharge eventually. The Tesla’s battery will take a long time to charge, much longer than it takes to fill other vehicles up at the gas pump. Many gas stations still don’t have hookups for recharging electric cars, meaning that you might have to go a little bit farther to find a charging station as well. Be sure to check on your Tesla’s power levels ahead of time, especially if you have important appointments on your calendar. You don’t want to have to call in late while searching for an outlet or waiting for your car to charge!

Tesla cars are undoubtedly a cutting-edge example of innovation in the auto industry. They’re efficient, beautiful, and offer a level of Smart Home integration that was previously unheard of. Just be sure you’re familiar with some of the Tesla’s special requirements and quirks before taking the plunge!
