A Year Without Podcasting

Hello all and welcome back to TFG1Mike 365! When I started this in January of 2019, the idea was for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. Sadly there were moments in 2019 that it was very difficult to keep up the daily writing. However I’m very proud of the writing I did last year. I haven’t done any writing here in 2020 at all. I need my computer, my keyboard, my headphones, and music blaring in said headphones… In order for me to zone out, tune into what I wanna write!

In November of 2019 Karen and I decided to leave Illinois behind, and live out her dream of living in the Pacific Northwest. We went back and forth between Oregon and Washington, and ultimately Washington State won, because it was soooo easy to get things done here. All of our stuff that we didn’t need or couldn’t bring with us on the plane ride, we put into storage. This included my computer, and that meant I’d be podcasting from my “smaht” phone. I do have a Samsung Galaxy S9, so it wasn’t like 9 or 10 years ago trying to podcast on an iPhone 3G.

So off and on in 2020 I have been podcasting, mostly with Steve/Megatron, but I’ve also done a few things with others, such as The Host with the Most Ryan Drost from Star Joes, Jon and Maggie from Married With Comics/The Rod Pod, Jeremy Fein, along with Edward and Kendra Hale. It was been very fun, but it’s slightly difficult for me not being able to record or edit the shows, and not being able to properly research the stuff. Due to my vision issues, I need a huge ass monitor and I have to be able to sit in front of the computer to read the info.

“Mr. Hunt, this isn’t mission difficult, it’s mission impossible. “Difficult” should be a walk in the park for you.” – Anthony Hopkins a Mission Commander Swanbeck in Mission: Impossible II

I don’t remember which day it was, but about a month ago I think, I broke down in the grocery store with my Dad on the phone. He was calling me, to check how Karen and I were doing, as at that time the fires in Washington, Oregon, and California were raging. I told him we were ok, and nowhere near the fires, but that everything else was kinda falling apart. After almost 12 years of consistently doing the podcasting thing, and almost a year without it…. it’s always gonna be in my blood… I need it in order to function. I’m so grateful to my Dad and stepmother for helping Karen and I get our stuff out of storage and out here to Washington! Any and all podcasts I record in the future are all because of my Dad helping us. I have had so many ideas, plans, and thoughts of podcasts I would have or might do in the future within this year of me barely podcasting. Hell I even said I was a “Retired Podcaster” at one point. Often in my depression I’ve said, well I’ve had a “good run of podcasting”, but the machine that is the podcaster in me just can’t give it up.

I love everything about podcasting, from plotting and planning shows that will take 1-5 years to get done, recording, editing, preparing for publishing, and aligning guests and co hosts. Plus the interviews have done in the past, and the three that we have done recently. Just pinch me, because I never thought in a million years I’d get to talk to half or even any of the people that we have here at The GCRN. The guests I have on our shows, as well as the cohorts, I mean cohosts and friends that I have helping us craft what The GCRN will be is what drives me to keep on keepin’ on! There are big plans for us here at The GCRN in 2021!!!

I hope you’ll join me on this new writing journey for the rest of 2020 on into 2021, and beyond! Thanks for reading these things everyone. Don’t forget to UNLEASH THE GEEK IN YOU only on The GeekCast Radio Network! From podcasts, to writing, and more!
