TFG1MIKE 365 – 2019 Day 12

POP GOES THE FUNKO!

Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 12th entry, I’ll be talking about Funko Pops!

POPS OF PERSONALITY!

It was the end of July, beginning of August 2017 when I first started collecting Funko Pops. The vinyl figures that Funko puts out. I thought that my first one was Batgirl from the classic Batman 66 TV series, but now I’m not sure if it was her or the Stone Cold Steve Austin WWE 2K16 figure. All I know is that the first 7 or 8 pops I had are pictured below.

So Batgirl 66, Taz from Space Jam, Tony Stark a Summer 2017 Exclusive, Will Riker from Star Trek, finally I grabbed Launchpad, and Gosalyn from Darkwing Duck. I also had Selfie Gwenpool (not pictured), but she and Tony were for friends of mine. I always look for pops that will bring out my personality. Characters that speak to me, and ones that I have a connection to. When I started grabbing these pops last year…I had been out of the toy collecting thing since 2011. I just lost interest, and sold off all the figures I had. Being a kid of the 80s having toys was THE THING. It’s what kids lived for, and I know that applies to all generations, however the 80s were special when it came to toys. At least that’s the way I feel about it. Here’s what my collection looked like as of October 2018, I need to reorganize it, and take new pictures.

Collection Part 1:

Collection Part 2:

When it comes to collecting Funko Pops, for me the value doesn’t matter. I’m not buying these things to immediately resell them. I’m buying them because I feel they are the best representation of the things I love. Since I’ve started I have about 120 pops. If you’ve ever listened to any of the podcasts I’ve done in the last ten years, you’ll know I love making weird, crazy, corny, and funny connections between things. Kinda like what would happen if Shere Khan from Talespin would make a deal with Hans Gruber from Die Hard?

(Die Hard is NOT a Christmas movie, it’s a movie that takes place at Christmas Time!)

I also love to display my collection in a certain order. Not box number order, and not by franchise, but by decade. Well at least with the ones I have from certain decades, such as the MacGyver, A-Team, and Knight Rider pops. All are from 80s TV. Or putting all the Disney Afternoon characters together, from Darkwing Duck, DuckTales, TaleSpin, and more. The Funko Pop Rides Knight Rider figure is by far my most favorite in my collection.

I also might start displaying certain collection items by what store exclusivity they have. Or maybe putting all the AD ICONS together. This was a short introduction into my Funko Fanaticism. I’ll be making more posts about this renewed interest in collecting collectibles again. Well there will be at least one more post, after I rearrange the collection, and take newer pictures. I believe that Funko Pops bring out the collector’s personality, I’m not out to by every pop, from every line Funko releases.

Are you a Funko Fan? Are you not a Funko Fan?  Let me know in the comments below!

Join me tomorrow morning January 13, 2019 as I’ll be writing about whatever the first news story is that I see on Facebook!
