TFG1MIKE 365 – 2019 Day 26
Weezer The Teal Album
Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 26th entry, I’ll be talking about and-or reviewing Weezer’s Teal Album. This is all Art Danner’s fault. I knew that the band had released a cover of Toto’s “Africa”, but I had no idea, and I don’t think anyone else did… that The Teal Album was coming. Weezer released it with no promotion or announcement.
I have to admit that, I have never been a die hard Weezer fan. I’ve heard “Hashpipe”, “Island in the Sun”, and “Buddy Holly”, but beyond those “make them famous” songs, I’ve never really listened to them. I actually scoffed at them covering “Africa”, because I thought oh great another band that wants to do covers. Please do not misunderstand, I’m not against bands doing covers, my initial negativity about it comes from what I knew the band to be, from my limited exposure to them. I actually hadn’t thought about Weezer in years… Then I put The Teal Album on, and damn I love everything on here!
Track List:
Africa – Toto
Everybody Wants to Rule the World – Tears for Fears
Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) – The Eurythmics
Take On Me – a-Ha
Happy Together – The Turtles
Paranoid – Black Sabbath
Mr. Blue Sky – Electric Light Orchestra
No Scrubs – TLC
Billie Jean – Michael Jackson
Stand By Me – Ben E. King
I need to listen to The Turtles and Electric Light Orchestra tracks a bit more, those were the only two tracks that I barely knew. The rest though, it’s like the 80s have been modernized in a good way! They have the Weezer styling, but maintain their old school flare. I’ve never been a fan of Sweet Dreams, but Weezer kills it here, and anyone that covers Tears for Fears is cool in my book! A Black Sabbath cover you say? Ok then, let’s rock, because that song is frightfully interesting!
Are you a fan of Weezer or no? If you aren’t a fan of them, you still need to hear The Teal Album. Let me know what you think in the comments below!
Join me tomorrow morning January 27, 2019 as I’ll be writing about yet another topic that strikes my fancy.
“It’s like a musical hug.” – Art Danner’s thought on The Teal Album
“It’s like a musical sonic boom from the 80’s, but with alternative rock style.” – TFG1Mike on The Teal Album!
