TFG1MIKE 365 – 2019 Day 31

Carmen Sandiego Season 1

“Tell me Where in the World is… Carmen Sandiego!

Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 31st entry, I’ll be talking about Netflix’s NEW Carmen Sandiego animated series, as well as the other Carmen Sandiego shows I’ve watched. Check out the trailer for the new series below. I’m going to try my best NOT TO SPOIL this new series, but there might be SOME SPOILERS! You have been warned!

Unlike my initial negativity towards the announcement, and look of the Netflix She-Ra series, when I heard about them doing a NEW Carmen Sandiego series, I was all for it! The She-Ra series while I have seen it, I’ll have to talk about in a whole other post, because this is all about Carmen! There are only 9 episodes in Carmen Sandiego Season 1, but these 9 episodes are very fluid, and they are very well presented to the audience.

Everyone watching the opening 2 parter to this NEW series, might think… Oh but that ain’t MY Carmen show. It actually is, let me reassure you. They just tell the narrative in a different way. We open with the two parter “Becoming Carmen Sandiego”. This gives us all the origins of how Carmen, became Carmen! The show combines the educational stuff from the old animated series, along with fast paced action. It’s more of a love letter to the Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego animated series, than you might think. Gina Rodriguez was the perfect voice for the role, everything she does with Carmen is wonderful. Everyone remembers the classic PBS game show right? With the sweet Rockapella theme? Yeah I loved that show! As I assume most that watched it did.

Then there was the animated series, and while I enjoyed it immensely, I remember watching the game show more. While both taught us geography, I felt the game show taught it a bit better. The cool thing about the classic animated series is that it focused more on Zack and Ivy, along with the player. Carmen was always the elusive wicked woman. The reverse has kinda happened with the new show, actually I can’t even say that. The new show takes all the classic roles, and makes them one big team, because this is a whole new way of telling Carmen’s story. Hell it is a whole new and different storytelling aspect for Carmen.

After watching the first season, I can’t wait for more! What were your favorite parts of the past Carmen series, and will you check out this new series? Let me know in the comments below!

Join me tomorrow morning February 1, 2019 as I’ll be writing about the shortest month of the year.
