TFG1MIKE 365 – 2019 Day 42

Special Look at the LIVE ACTION Aladdin!

Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 42nd entry, I’ll be talking about the special look at the NEW LIVE ACTION Aladdin from Disney.

Let me just say what I’ve been saying for years… Trailers are meant to get us pumped for whatever the said film might entail. Just because I’m “judging” a trailer, doesn’t mean I’m judging the whole film. That being said, I haven’t seen the other live action disney animated redos, and I most likely will not see this. On that one principle alone, the fact that they are redoing their animated films. It’s as if Disney has no fresh ideas.

Back in 1992 when the animated feature Aladdin came out… It was a great time for Disney animation. Some say a second renaissance for them. Robin Williams will always be the genie in the lamp. As you can see from the linked trailer above, Will Smith is now the genie in the live action version. I scoffed at this last year, or whenever it was that he was announced to play the character.

Honestly in the last 5 years or so the only Will Smith film I’ve seen is Men in Black 3. Only by looking at his filmography on imdb can I really remember any films he’s been in recently. Suicide Squad and MIB3 being the two biggest ones. The sad thing is that, unless he was in the news for something, I’ve almost forgotten all about Will Smith.

My ultimate takeaway here: The music and the title are the coolest things about the trailer. Will Smith looks like Shaq’s character Kazam’s brother! Hell he actually looks like he should be playing Jafar!

What are your thoughts on the new Aladdin? What are your thoughts on Disney redoing their animated films in live action? Let me know in the comments below!

Join me tomorrow morning February 12, 2019 as I’ll be writing about yet another thing that comes across my desk.
