From Taxis to Ride Sharing Services

EDITOR’S NOTE: I don’t care which ride sharing service you use, what I’m writing about in this entry is the one that I use. Whether Uber, Lyft, or regular taxis… it matters not to me.

Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 51st entry, I’ll be talking about using taxi cabs and ride sharing services!

In the last 50 days of 2019, I have told you about the mild case of Cerebral Palsy that affects the right side of my body. In Day 4 of 2019, I wrote up “Driving Mr. Daisy“, wherein I explained why I can’t drive. My wife and I were on an Uber trip the other day, and we were chatting with the driver, one of the things that came up was that it seems as if there are a lot loss drunk drivers on the roads these days. Now I do know there are still drunk drivers out there, but with services like Uber and Lyft, that number has to have been cut down a bit. Before I had a smartphone again, I’d use taxis or the bus system in Louisville, KY, or I would walk. From 2015 through 2017 after my Mom died I would walk or take the bus everywhere. In general I did this before she died as well, but my point here is that I was on my own again… I didn’t have to take care of my Mom anymore, because she was in a better place, with no pain finally.

So in those two years, before I met my wife… I didn’t have a smartphone at the time, I felt I couldn’t justify the cost, and I would use taxi cabs most of the time. When I would use a taxi, it was mainly for getting groceries home. Since I’m now back in the smartphone family, Uber has been my best friend. My lovely wife Karen does all the driving, and we have an amazing car, but there are days that she can’t drive. So I’ll either walk or pull up the Uber app on my phone. The only negative things so far with Uber that I see are, sometimes the cars are too small for me. Yes I know I can pay more for a larger car. The other thing is that their GPS is kinda off and very wonky at times. The cars are nicer than most taxis, and the drivers are great conversationalists. Personally I think that Uber is the way to go from now on, I respect taxi cab drivers, but sometimes that experience can be very bad. Other than getting in and out of a smaller car, I’ve never had a bad experience with Uber. I have not tried Lyft yet, so I can’t really compare them.

Which ride sharing service do you use? Let me know in the comments below!

Join me tomorrow morning February 21, 2019 as I’ll be writing about something, I dunno, you’ll just have to check back in with me tomorrow!
