TFG1MIKE 365 – 2019 Day 65
Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 66th entry, I’ll be talking about home ownership.
I’ve rented apartments or homes pretty much all of my adult life. While renting is a waste of money in the long run, there are advantages and disadvantages to it. In my mind the number one disadvantage is loud neighbors. The advantages to renting over owning property, is that most of the every day maintenance is taken care of for you. You know what I’m talking about… lawn care, snow removal, trash type stuff. Most apartments will have dumpsters, and some have trash compactors. It’s not that difficult in walking a bag of trash down the hall, and sending it down the trash chute. Or walking outside and throwing it in the dumpster, but after that you’re done with it. Whereas with home ownership you have to brave icy driveways in the winter. LOL
I’m generally a person that can handle the cold weather, because my body generally runs hot. That and growing up in Massachusetts I learned how to handle winters. However at 39 years old… I’m ready for no more winter. The advantages of owning your home, it’s yours, and you can do whatever you want I guess… The pride of saying that you were able to actually purchase a piece of property that is all yours. Lately I’m feeling more trapped in owning the home my wife and I own. Mainly because of my health, and not being able to do certain things around the house. The whole thing is very much a double edged sword. I do love the life me and the wife have created here in our home, but the stress of having to fix this and that, pay out for this and that… it’s too much at times. It makes me miss the apartment lifestyle.
Just because I’m stressed out about all of this, does not in any way mean that I don’t recognize that I’m very lucky to be able to afford and have my own home. We saw our house four times, before I wrote an empassioned letter to the owners, in the hopes that they would sell to us. Well it all worked out, and even though we wanna get the hell outta Illinois because of winter, generally we are still loving our home every day. We’ve been in oue home for one year as of today.
Are you a fellow homeowner, or do you rent? Do you constantly look at real estate listings like my wife and I do? Let me know in the comments below.
Join me tomorrow morning March 8, 2019 as I’ll be writing about something Funko related.
