TFG1MIKE 365 – 2019 Day 67

Funko Pops Common Vs Exclusive

Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 67th entry, I’ll be talking about yet another Funko topic.

“Today’s  Common Pop, might become tomorrow’s grail.” – unknown Funko Fan from one of the Facebook groups I’m in.

This statement is so true. Commons are not horrible. There are cases where the common is more desirable than the exclusive. The new KFC colonel pops are a perfect example… I want the common more than the Funko shop one. I am getting the common over that exclusive, because I think the common’s character design is better.

I just don’t get why everyone in the Funko groups on Facebook are like eewwwww commons! Regular or “common” pops that you can find almost anywhere might not be as valuable as some of the exclusives, but they aren’t homeless pops either. I’ve said this in the past daily blogs that I’ve written on Funko pops, pops should bring out your personality. Collect the characters and franchises you love.

What I continue to love about Funko and their pop vinyl line is that they have their hands in almost every cookie jar! There are a few licenses that they don’t have, but I’m sure down the line they’ll get them. I have several grails right now that I’m hoping to add to my collecting and 3 outta 4 of them are all under $30 in value, and they are all commons. These “grails” are from Sesame Street, as I love the characters. Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, and Cookie Monster are the ones I’m hoping to add to my collection by the time we say goodbye to 2019.

All of the pops shown above are commons, and the artists, sculptors, and other Funko employees put a lot of work into each of them. Look at the detail on Harry and Marv from Home Alone… That’s amazing to me. I do like exclusives as well, I’m not a commons only snob. I just don’t kill myself trying to get the exclusives. I do have a number of exclusive pops, but I bet my commons outweigh them.

What does everyone think, are commons getting a bad rap, or are these exclusives just too over the top? Are you a Funko Fan? Are you not a Funko Fan? Why or Why not? Let me know in the comments below.

Join me tomorrow morning March 9, 2019 as I’ll be writing about something!
