TFG1MIKE 365 – 2019 Day 75

Stone Cold Steve Austin – Happy 3:16 Day!

Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 75th entry, I’ll be talking about the WWF-WWE’s own Texas rattlesnake, Stone Cold Steve Austin!

What is 3:16 Day you might ask, well the quoted text below from Quora has the answer.

“And at the post-match interview with Michael Hayes (as Dok Hendrix), Austin would proceed to throw Roberts’ Bible-thumping right back at Jake. The selling point of Austin’s promo is him screaming at Roberts: “You sit there and you thump your Bible, and you say your prayers, and it didn’t get you anywhere! Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16… Austin 3:16 says ‘I just whipped your ass’!”

I almost missed the Attitude Era of WWF-WWE. Yes you read that right, as I said on Day 43 I watched WWF in the 80s, but fell out in the early 90s. The funny thing is when I picked it back up briefly during the Attitude Era, it had already been going on at the time. I was a junior and senior in high school in 1998-1999 when I found the WWF again. I watched from then until about late 2002-early 2003. It would be a full four years after that, that I stepped away from it. You can go read all about that in the link above, what I’m here to talk about now is just how AWESOME Stone Cold is!

We all love a great heel right? In the above video you’ll see a chronology of Stone Cold’s best moments, and in the video below is one of my favorite moments! Stone Cold bringing the “Steve”weiser truck down to the ring, in order to put Santino and Maria in their place! I think what makes Stone Cold such a lovable heel is that he’s an “every man” kinda heel. He’s that down home texas boy, but piss him off and the rattlesnake will bite back. He just wants to raise some hell, and drink a lot of beer while doing it. Whomever was on the WWF staff at the time, that had the job of throwing Stone Cold the beers, that must have been the coolest moment at the time for that person.

Most wrestlers that either have been or are currently in the WWE have had stints in Hollywood, and Stone Cold is no different. The first thing I saw him pop up in was my #1 favorite 90s cop show Nash Bridges! He played the character of Fugitive Recovery agent Jake Cage. It was pretty much Steve’s character from WWE, but in a real life type of setting. Who’d have ever thought that Don Johnson and Stone Cold would be in a TV show together? He was only in a smattering of episodes, it wasn’t a recurring role, but oh hell yeah was it fun.

When the glass shatters at the beginning of Stone Cold’s theme, I can’t help but get a chill these days. Back in the Attitude Era I would get super excited, but these days it’s more of a expect the unexpected kinda thing. When Vince was talking about how he started it all on RAW 25, and that he didn’t need anyone… My heart skipped a beat when the glass shattered, and Stone Cold came out. What are your favorite Stone Cold moments, feuds, matches, anything! Let me know in the comments below.

Join me tomorrow morning March 17, 2019 as I’ll be writing about green beer, or something like that!
