My Podcast Listenership!!

Hello all and welcome back to TFG1Mike 365! It’s Day 5 of 2023!!! New Year brings new hopes and dreams to all of us I think. In case you haven’t read any of my blogs before, you can find all the blogs over at FROM THE DESK OF TFG1Mike! Normally my goal with this series is to wake up each new day, and find something on the internet, or in real life to write about. Today I’m going to be writing about my podcast listenership! When I say “Podcast Listenership” I mean this is everything about how I listen to podcasts. Also I’m an AUDIO ONLY podcast listener, I don’t do video!!

Since August 8, 2020, I’ve been cataloging my listenership through screenshots in a Facebook album, which you can find HERE!

I’ve been listening to podcasts since sometime in early 2006. You see at the time I wanted to find an online way of listening to my favorite Boston, Massachusetts based radio station. I’ve told this story before in podcasts we done here at The GCRN over the last 15 years, but to sum it up quickly here… I had found World’s Finest Podcast with Michael David Sims and James Deaux, after that I found This Week In Geek, and then through twitter Steve/Megatron and I connected, and the rest is history!

With Michael David Sims and his team over at Earth-2.Net, I loved that they did longer podcasts. I’m talkin’ 2-3 hour podcasts all about topics I wanted to hear about. Topics I was interested in. The biggest difference between podcasts and the radio is YOU or I control when we wanna listen! And we don’t miss a thing, as it isn’t live right now content! We can play a podcast episode straight through from beginning to end, or we can take our time. Generally 30 mins to an hour and 30 mins is the sweet spot for a podcast’s length, but it depends on the topics, and the type of podcast you are doing. I don’t want this entry of the blog to just be a list of the podcasts I’ve listened to over the past nearly 20 years, but part of it might turn into that. Actually no it won’t, scroll up to where I linked my Podcast Listenership album on Facebook, all the shows  I currently listen to are there! I will say though I wish Part Time Nerds, Full Time Dads and Burnt Popcorn would RETURN!!!!!!

Let’s talk about the time length of a podcast, and why I liked the longer shows is because I had nothing but time on my hands at the time. In 2006 I was a live in resident for a local group home in Louisville, KY. My job was the night shift, usually 6PM to 6AM, so outside of sleeping during the day, I had my days free to do anything I wanted. I filled that up with podcast listening. When it comes to podcasts, podcasting, and being a podcaster, I’m a Podcast Machine. Whether that’s listening or producing podcasts! I like marathon listening to podcasts, saving up episodes, and filling my day with great content from the shows I listen to. However I also like doing a variety of listening. With variety listening, I am listening to each NEW episode of whatever podcast it is, as it releases. So one day I could be listening to KIDS LOVE BATMAN!, or I could be listening to WVFRM, or Pod Meets World, and so on… but I will listen to all of those in one day most times.

For me when it comes to life right now there are three important things: Podcasts, Sex, and Breathing! (YES That Was a modified version of what Jimmy Fallon said in 2005’s Fever Pitch! GREAT Film!) I am entrenched in Podcasting full time, and I love it on the listening end, sometimes on the producing end I’m not so in love with podcasting… But I block it out, and power on through!

What are your Podcast Habits? Which GCRN podcasts do you listen to? Sound off!!!

Join me tomorrow morning January 6, 2023 as I’ll be writing about something! I haven’t figured that out yet!
