Jem and the Holograms: The Truly Outrageous Complete Series DVD Review

Today is a huge day for fans of 80’s cartoons. Back in 2004 Rhino released Season 1 & 2, and Season 3 Part 1 of Jem & The Holograms on DVD. While at that time it was awesome to have Jem on DVD, right now it’s impossible to get those sets at any decent price. Enter the awesome people at Shout Factory! They have put together the truly outrageous complete series DVD set!  The wonderful people at Shout Factory were nice enough to  send me a advanced copy for review. Now I remember watching Jem as a kid, but I didn’t really remember any of the episodes other then the first three part story. In the past month I’ve watched the entire series, and I must say it’s more for boys then girls. One of the reasons why I say that is because Jem is chock filled with action. It’s more of a look at the music industry.

So October 11th when Shout Factory releases the Truly Outrageous Complete Series Edition any and all Jem fans should be buying this! This 11 disc set has tons of great bonus features and all 65 episodes of the series. This set comes with some awesome bonus features:

The 11th Bonus Disc Exclusive Disc To The Complete Series Includes:

Three Brand NEW Retrospective Featurettes

Original Commercials

Animated Storyboards

The Jem and the Holograms Writer’s Bible

Rare DVD Rom Maerial

….And More

All Three of the retrospectives are awesome, Shout Factory has really done a great job with this set. You have interviews with Christy Marx, Samantha Newark, Britta Phillips, and a ton of fans. The video jukebox feature is awesome as well. It allows you to listen to all the music from the series track by track. This feature is spread out to all 11 DVDs.

The voice acting in this series was and still is amazing to this day. Charlie Adler a.k.a. Buster Bunny from Tiny Toons plays the vile Eric Raymond. Smanatha Newark of the voice side of Jem, and Britta Phillips on the singing side are truly outrageous!!!! Sue Blu Voices Stormer, one of the Misfits. Ellen Bernfeld provides the voice of Pizzaz, and does an equally amazing job. The storytelling in the series has actual continuity and overall it is a well thought out series. Don’t be fooled this isn’t just for girls! Any guy that grew up a child of the 80’s, and likes action cartoons will love this.

The Sunbow library of major 80’s cartoons is now complete with Jem, M.A.S.K., Transformers, and G.I. Joe all on DVD.

I highly recommend that you get the Complete Series set!!! Go get Jem now from the Shout Factory Website.

  1. I was watching Jem on The Hub before I switched to satellite and lost the channel. It is a good series. Entertaining enough for males who like cartoons of that era. The voice acting is quite good. Glad that Shout! Factory was able to put together such a good package for the series.
