Blu-Ray Review – Beware the Batman Dark Justice – Season 1 Part 2

wb-archiveBeware-the-Batman-logo

First off I’d like to thank Gary Miereanu of the WB Archive Collection, who has presented me so graciously with the Blu-Ray collection of Beware the Batman, Season 1, Part 2.

Thankfully the wait for this 2nd Part of Beware the Batman hadn’t been that long. We get the continuing mission of this new incarnation of Batman which unfortuneatly didn’t get any further legs to grow on for possible future seasons. That being said, I believe that this second half of the series successfully completed what the first half of this series setup. As the season went on from introducing the familiar rogues such as Anarchy, Ras al Ghul, we got a taste of Harvey Dent, and Slade aka Deathstroke. Very intricate and interesting how they managed all the team set out for in this show. I still believe this is the best Batman series we’ve received since 1992’s Batman the Animated Series.

Now to the disc, again it keeps the tone of the first set with the new slogan of Dark Justice in it. Which it is very accurate to it’s subtitled theme of the season. It is increasingly dark as it goes along which I believe helped to strengthen this series. More of the review below.

REVIEW:

THE MENU:

We return to the same styled Menu system here which is again quick and to the point. I still believe this aids it in more ways than you’d think having a simple design over too much to look at.

SPECIAL FEATURES:3726127-harvey

This is where I found myself again saddened. No special features in this part either but again there were none. I figured there could have been Behind the Scenes studio items, sketches, or something delving into the history on this new Batman.

AUDIO:

I think the music, sound effects and the tone was great. What I felt shined here was the voice cast. Audio for this season is as pure as the original release if not more. Between the crisp sounds of vocals, gun fire, explosions or music this shines.  Kurtwood Smith as Lieutenant James Gordon was great, having Tara Strong more or less reprise as a younger Barbara Gordon here was spectacular. My favorite was teh casting of Christopher McDonald as Harvey Dent which I think was perfect for that type of character.

VISUALS:tjj0meyzzj8r

With the visuals again I just loved the style they provided in this series. With the sleeker more human-ish designs in their features I think it helped me see them more as people than the character. The new designs or liberties with some of the characters was also great.

OVERVIEW:

Overall the second half of the series ramped up the levels to 11. I sat and watched the whole Part 2 of this season in one sitting I enjoyed it that much. The story was constantly climbing toward it’s eventually conclusion but the story, visuals and audio on it was simply stunning. I definitely recommend this 2nd part of the series, not only if you have the first already but if not what’s wrong with you? If you want a new incarnation of Batman that doesn’t focus on his Joker, Riddler, Penguin, Freeze, etc, then get this series. Here is where you see Batman grow. I believe it deserves a place on your DVD shelf.

The groundbreaking all-new CGI animated series returns. Batman, Alfred and swordstress Katana are back to take on the underworld likes of Anarky, Professor Pyg, Mister Toad and Magpie. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, this action-packed detective thriller deftly redefines what we have come to know as a “Batman show.”
