SATURDAY MORNINGS USED TO HAVE CARTOONS!

Hello all and welcome back to TFG1Mike 365! It’s Day 6 of 2023!!! New Year brings new hopes and dreams to all of us I think. In case you haven’t read any of my blogs before, you can find all the blogs over at FROM THE DESK OF TFG1Mike! Normally my goal with this series is to wake up each new day, and find something on the internet, or in real life to write about. Today is all about MY PERSONAL ULTIMATE 1990s SATURDAY MORNING CARTOON LINEUP! Cartoons I would wanna watch every Saturday Morning at 8:00AM ET!!! You can learn about the genesis of this new miniseries from the Day 7 of 2023 post HEREAlso my memory is hazy, so I had to look these up, and this is what I found. I’m choosing my timeslots from the outline you can see HERE

I was born in 1980, which gave me the ultimate opportunity to really grow up with cartoons. Saturday Morning was King in the 80s! Sadly as the 90s and 2000s came along, I witnessed, like we all did the DEATH of Saturday Morning Cartoons! However If I were choosing cartoons back then, this is what my lineup would look like:

8:00 AM ET: Tom & Jerry Kids: This theme song had me as a kid, and even now as an adult! I do like the show as well, but mainly I loved the theme song! My favorite overall era of Tom and Jerry is the Chuck Jones era!

8:30 AM ET: A Pup Named Scooby Doo! I loved this show then and now! So funny!! Scooby and Shaggy are still scared of everything, Velma is all about that mystery, Daphne is a rich snob, and Fred has that conspiracy thing dialed up to over 11. Plus there’s a few Red Herrings thrown in here and there!

9:00 AM ET: Disney Afternoon (or Morning!) I’m lumping Goof Troop, Tale Spin, Darkwing Duck and the rest into one half hour variety. I loved Darkwing Duck the most out of the 90s Disney Toons.

9:30 AM ET: Tiny Toon Adventures You might ask why this on the list, but not Animaniacs. I was growing up, a teenager, and cartoons were fading for me. I actually would never watch Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and the lot until my mid twenties in the 2000s! But Tiny and Toony was my jam, moreso than Baby Looney Tunes. It was hip, cool, and edgy at times!

10:00 AM ET: Batman The Animated Series The funny thing is that I only caught BTAS here and there when I could, because I was watching it one Saturday Morning, and my then stepmother saw me watching it, and said, “Turn that off it is too violent!” This was somewhere in 1993 or 1994. I was between 13 and 14 years old. HUH? OK sure. Since those teen years, I’ve seen all of BTAS over and over, and I absolutely still love it.

10:30 AM ET: Spider-Man The Animated Series I started watching this show in 1994 when it debuted, I was already away from that evil stepmother, so I could actually watch it. I’ve been saying over the last year or so, that I was NEVER a Comics Kid, I was a Cartoon Kid! And this is the cartoon along with X-Men ’92 that made me want to get into reading comics!

11:00 AM ET: X-Men: The Animated Series That theme!!!! Just killer, and the voice acting just amazing! The stories were great too, and the funny thing is I always thought this series only ever had 4 seasons not 5. I remember clear as day, the Beyond Good and Evil 4 part ending to Season 4. I guess I went away from watching the show after that!

11:30 AM ET: Batman Beyond When I was 19 and going through graduating high school, and giving college the ole college try, I found Batman Beyond, and I was like WAAAHHHH…???? I was so confused, an OLD Bruce Wayne, and new hotshot in a sleek sexy Batsuit… What was this? I found out, and I still love Batman Beyond to this day. The stories are more action centric, but just as well done as BTAS!

12:00 PM ET: The NEWS! Yak! (As A kid we never wanted the Saturday Morning Cartoons to end!)

And if I were choosing a Saturday Morning Lineup today as an adult! (NOTE: BEAST WARS & BEAST MACHINES were not on my 90s list, because they didn’t air Saturday mornings!)

8:00 AM ET: Beast Wars – Beast Machines Transformers of the 90s!!! I was very late to this party, as I’ve said in other parts of this…. I was 16 and 19 when these shows were out. I was trying my best to grow up, and never could catch them when they aired. Specifically BW, it aired at that 6AM timeslot, or at least I remember it airing them. Obviously since the 90s I’ve seen both series and absolutely love them.

8:30 AM ET: Marvel Action Hour (any of the 90s Marvel Toons can air in here X92 Spidey94 etc) Rewatching what I felt were my adolescence cartoon era!! Comic Book stories come alive in the animated from these cartoons!

9:00 AM ET: A Pup Named Scooby Doo! If I were ranking all the Scooby Series that have been since the debut in 1969, APNSD, would be a tie with Scooby Doo Where Are You for #1, and Scooby and Scrappy at #3, with 13 Ghosts at #4… the rest I don’t think I’ve seen them. But APNSD had everything for me, the spooky of where are you, with a fresh new take on what the gang was like when they were kids!

9:30 AM ET: Animaniacs: So this is my lineup of what I would wanna watch today! And it took me YEARS to get into Animaniacs, but I finally did, and I love this show, again the variety in the skits was great!!! Everything about this show was awesome!

10:00 AM ET: The Nintendo Cartoons YES I know they aren’t listed in my lineup from back then, but I was  definitely watching all of the Mario shows, Captain N The Game Master, and more!

10:30 AM ET: Mega Man 1994 Again just like the comics, video games exploding out of the TV in animation! Love this series, it really brought Mega Man to the forefront of a lot of 90s kids minds! I think by 1994 I was playing Mega Man 3, 4, and 5!!!

11:00 AM ET: Batman Beyond I can watch my favorite episodes of this at any time.

11:30 AM ET: Looney Tunes Just as I said on Day 7 of 2023, and as we all know… Looney Tunes are classic, and to me they are timeless!

12:00 PM ET: The NEWS! Yak! (As A kid we never wanted the Saturday Morning Cartoons to end!)

^^ Now this line up is more of a multiverse of every cartoon I’ve watched in my lifetime, and how do I get the last 42 years of my life in one lineup…? Variety Baby!!! No hinderance of only needing one show…. life is like box of cartoons you never know what yer gonna get! Also I kinda forgot how I made up the Day 7 of 2023 lineup for the current day, so when I was writing this up, I thought at the time I was using only 90s cartoons for the modern lineup, but nope I wasn’t!

Also this was inspired by OptimusSolo’s Geek Showcase, and him being “Just Another 80s Geek” talking about his Ultimate Saturday Morning Lineup! Check out Geek ShowCase on YouTube!

Join me tomorrow morning January 15, 2023 as I’ll be writing about No More Either Or!
