He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe Season 2
By The Power of Grayskull!!!! We have the Mill Creek Entertainment’s Season 2 DVDs of He-Man and the Masters Of The Universe!
When the He-Man MOTU 80’s cartoon was originally released on DVD by BCI Eclipse I got all 4 volume sets. They were broke up into Season 1 Volume 1, and so on. The four sets when placed on a DVD shelf had this cool binding graphic of Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain. The BCI DVDs were released between 2005-2006. They had tons of behind the scenes bonus features, commentaries, and character bios.
Last year in 2011 Mill Creek Entertainment through Classic Media rereleased He-Man and the Masters of the Universe on Complete season DVD sets. Instead of Season1 Volume 1, and so forth, there are now 2 DVD sets that encompass both seasons of this classic 80’s cartoon.
Amy Gorton from Mill Creek Entertainment was nice enough to send me The Complete Second Season for review. I will say that it’s nice to have the seasons in one box set each, instead of four separate DVD sets. However it seems to me that the Mill Creek versions are the exact same as the BCI Eclipse versions of the series. By this I mean the special features seem to be all the exact same ones. The only difference I think is that the commentaries might be new.
Here are the bonus features included in Mill Creek’s Season Two Set:
English & Spanish audio tracks
10 Complete Episode Scripts
50 detailed profiles of various characters, creatures, and artifacts
Documentaries: The Story Of He-Man Parts 3-4
Documentary: The Magic of Filmation
Documentary: Animating He-Man
6 Episode Commentaries
I know for a fact that the documentaries are the same as the ones on the BCI DVD sets, as well as the character profiles. This is not neccessarily a bad thing, but if you are expecting NEW bonus features on the Mill Creek sets it is not there. However you do get all 65 episodes of He-Man and the MOTU Season Two. And I will say if you missed out on getting the BCI releases these are good sets to add to your DVD collection.
I’m hoping that when Mill Creek and Classic Media release the complete series set later this year that NEW special features are added.
DVD Set Rating: 7/10
Thanks, Mike. I am just missing season 2 volume 2 of the BCI releases and I was wondering if I should just consider picking up the Mill Creek releases. I’m glad to hear that the many great extras on the BCI releases were carried over.
yeah. And mill creek packages their dvds like crap. They are all in computer sleeve like things. The BCI releases are better packaged.
