Batgirl
Batgirl #36 is here. Continuing on in the new BRIGHTER direction for BG in the New 52. Issue 36 is anime based! This will be a slightly SPOILER FILLED Review!
So I’m still not fully into this new direction. I’ll admit I enjoyed this issue more than the previous one, but I’m still not liking the new “teenagery” feel the book has taken on.
Writing:
What Works: I’ve gotten used to the writing style of Stewart and Fletcher, but still not my thing. I like how they incorporate the technology into the storytelling. And how BG’s past memories play into figuring out what the hell is going on each issue. I do enjoy the fact that we see Babs in the past with her dad, as well as how all the new characters are treating her.
What Doesn’t Work: I kinda wish we had more hints than what we got for the “pther” Batgirl. I mean seriously show us something, tease us…. do something so we can be in on it… I guess they want everyone to be shocked when the BG imposter is revealed.
Art:
What Works: Really digging Babs Tarr’s style as the series goes on. I prefer when she draws Barbara as BG in more of an adult non teenager looking light. I thought the Robot Pony store sign was great, and funny too.
What Doesn’t Work: This is Babs Tarr’s style and I can respect that, but for me the backgrounds and buildings, and settings in general are meh! It just doesn’t look like it belongs as any part of Gotham City. Even if it is on the outskirts. Other than that there isn’t much that I don’t like about the art. Other then the complaints I have already had about it.
Final Thoughts:
I enjoyed this issue more than the previous one, but at the same time I still do not care for the new direction and style.
Review Overview
The story needs to move along at a faster pacve
Getting Better, but still has issues
Batgirl #36 was interesting... It furthers Babs's adventures in Burnside, but at the same time does nothing to reveal who the copybat Batgirl is.
