Batgirl #24 Cover

The cover to this is simply a thing of beauty! When I’ve looked at the Batgirl covers recently, I thought that they are true works of art. Just the design and style of them. They look as if they could be in a museum. Let’s face it comics are another form of artistry, both in the writing and art. I don’t know what it is about The New 52 Batgirl title, but everything about it is great. I look forard to it every month. Moreso then some other comics I read.

Writing:

Gail Simone continues to be spectacular writing these Batgirl stories. I can’t see Babs being written any other way after reading the Simone run. The entire arc from #0 through #24 here is simply amazing. Ms. Simone doesn’t miss a beat with the story she is craftng. In issue #24 we see the fallout from what happened in Batgirl #23.  As you can see by the preview pages Barbara is tired. I really am enjoying the relationship she and Alysia have as roommates and friends. Because Barbara in her ninja outfit gets caught by the cops as she holds Ricky’s body, there is a showdown with her and the G.C.P.D. This is damn awesome!!!! I love the dialogue between the characters. I love the strained relationship between Barbara and her father. I really enjoy the past BG rogues showing up! There are two things in the writing from Ms. Simone that I really love, but I will not spoil them here. Let’s just say halfway through the issue there’s a moment of awesomeness from Babs, and then the very end of the issue. That ending made me laugh and tear up at the same time, for some strange reason.

Art:

Fernando Pasarin and Jonathan Glapion continue to excel with their art and inks in the Batgirl ongoing. Just when I thought that they couldn’t get any better, they do!  The cover by Alex Garner as stated above is a work of true art. I love how the characters are drawn and shaded in certain areas of issue #24. I really enjoy how the rain looks on the page. I know that is something that will sound weird as you read this. However it’s true, the way rain looks on the page is damn cool. The artists know how to work the camera angles for it, and it’s something that simple that makes the art in this issue awesome.  The pure emotion in all the characters is shown very well and that ending oh man!!! That was superb, in one page Pasarin and company made my heart skip a beat!

Final Rating:
