Review of Batman Beyond 2.0 Chapter 1

Batman Beyond 2.0

BBU #1

Batman Beyond Unlimited has become Batman Beyond Universe in Print. Digitally it’s called Batman Beyond 2.0. Kyle Higgins, the masterful Nightwing Scribe takes a hold of the reigns, and runs away with the book! This will be a SPOILER FREE Review!!!

Adam Beechen did an amazing job writing the stories for the Bat Beyond Universe, and now Kyle Higgins has taken over. I actually joined Comixology just to see this DIGITAL FIRST title. At 0.99 it was a no brainer. Of course I’ll still be getting the trades when they come out. I doubt I’ll get the single issues, now that I know I can read comixology on my PC. I thought Comixology was just for smart phones with apps and stuff. No one told me it could be done on a desktop. However I digress, i’m so stoked to be reading my favorite male DC writer on this title. He clearly loves the DC Animated Universe, and it shows in his writing.

Rewired Part 1 of 8: “Nothing Lasts Forever”

BBU #1 Title

1 Year After Joker Night. So the events of this new direction take place somewhat in the future. With the new direction here, Kyle Higgins takes over for Adam Beechen, and does a masterful job with it. I loved Adam’s run on the series, I’m not trying to take away from what he was able to do with it.

BBU #1 Terry Vs Man Bat

Writing:

I’m a fan of Kyle Higgins, Everyone should know that by now. So I was super stoked to read his take on the Beyond Universe. His writing is stellar in this first issue. It’s gonna be super difficult for me NOT to spoil this series, because it’s just that damn awesome. As stated above this new storyline starts 1 year after Joker Night. For those that do not know what Joker night is check out Batman Beyond 10,000 Clowns. The story opens with the Mayor of Neo Gotham talking about the new Arkham Institute, we also have Batman going after the Man Bat…. or the Man Bat Beyond. Kyle’s writing excels in this universe, he clearly knows the subject material very well. His style fits so well. This was my first ever digital comics, and I loved reading it on my PC. I loved Kyle’s approach to every character. We find out that something in the past has happened to wear Terry and Dana are no longer together, and there are very many different relationships versus what came before this advancement of time. I’m not sure I can say much more about the writing and the story without spoiling it. Go get this for ninety nine cents it’s well worth your time.

BBU #1 Bruce Calling

Art:

Thony Silas is an artist I’m new to seeing, but damn can he make the cartoon universe pop of the page. I love Thony’s designs on the Bat Suit, Barbara, Terry, Dana, and all the other characters. We do not even see Bruce in this first chapter, but that’s ok. The backgrounds are amazing, the action shots are great. I think that Silas’s art is amazing to go along with the Bat Beyond Universe. It seems Mr. Silas has a keen eye for bringing the animated series to the 2-D realm.

BBU #1 End 1

Final Thoughts/Rating:

My final thought is STOP READING THIS, if you haven’t already, and go get BATMAN BEYOND 2.0 Chapter 1.
