Batman Beyond 2.0 Chapter 10 is here! Kyle Higgins, the masterful Nightwing Scribe continues writing a great tale in the Beyond Universe, and this time we get the next chapter! It’s Batman Vs Melanie Walker, but that’s not all that’s going on here! This will be a SPOILER FILLED Review! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!
In Chapter Ten, we see what has happened to a former playing card! I really like that Kyle Higgins waited until Digital Chapter 10 to bring in Melanie Walker formerly Ten of the Royal Flush Gang!
The Bat-Men “Great Expectations” Part 2 of 7
Once again the print issue hit stands before the digi release. However I think that in this case that’s a good thing. The Batman Beyond Universe #5 collects chapter 9 and 10. I was shocked once again, because I had already read chapter 9. It’s like BUT WAIT…. THERE’S MORE!!!
Writing:
I was not expecting half of what this chapter was. Two things are very ironic for me while reading this. The first is that both Nightwing #26 and this chapter use the drug called Kanium. So that leads me to wonder about the future for Grayson. Plus I know there are plans from DC to bring the Bat Beyond Universe into the New 52. I just hope it doesn’t effect this series. OK and my second spot of irony is simple Ten appears in Chapter Ten! That was something within the writing that I was totally not expecting. However Kyle Higgins does a masterful job making the reader feel as if we are watching new episodes of the animated series! So here we see more of Terry’s college life, and the fact that the teacher’s aren’t putting up with him much. We even see just how well Terry can talk to his roommate Ryan while being in the Batsuit. Then there’s the plot with Man-Bat! He threatens the city if he doesn’t get the Kanium he wants! THIS IS HOW YOU WRITE A STORY! Not to slow, and at the same time it doesn’t zoooom past ya!
There’s only so many words I can say about Kyle Higgins and his writing in this title! I mean we are ten digi chapters in, and five print issues. I think I’ve used “awesome” enough. I’ve also stated the fact that if you were a fan of the DCAU you’ll love this… way too many times. The reason why I continually say these things, is because well they ARE TRUE!!!!! Every issue or digital chapter I read leaves me wondering, pondering, and wanting more right now!! This is one series that I always am clamoring for!!! Kyle brings more mystery into comics every time I read this series. We are this far in, and he still has to explore WHAT the hell happened between Terry and Dana, and Terry and Bruce. I’m on the edge of my seat with his writing.
Art:
I’ve said this way too much as well… “Thony Silas is the only person I want brawing the Bat Beyond characters.” The art in here is beautiful, and jaw dropping. The way Thony age progressed Melanie was awesome, and Man-Bat looks great! I love the way Thony draws the Batsuit as Terry flies off in some shots, it’s very sleek looking. I do still think it looks weird with Batman smiling without showing teeth, but that is a VERY minor gripe.
The characters and backgrounds seem to pop and then blend in places with this chapter. That is a good thing, in the laster chapter we had lots of action with Batman Vs Shriek. Here though there is very little action with Batman. Which as far as the art goes I think is a good thing. We have Man-Bat crashing the GCPD, and Melanie fighting off a coupla creeps. It’s like Batman has a front row seat to the show. The art reflects this in the colors as well, which are stunningly wonderful. Thony Silas and his team are doing the cartoon universe justice here!!!
Final Thoughts/Rating:
My final thought is STOP READING THIS, if you haven’t already, and go get BATMAN BEYOND 2.0 Chapter 10. It’s the second chapter in this 7 part story within the Batman Beyond Universe, and you won’t wanna miss a second of it! You can find it on the DC Comics App or Comixology or wherever you get your digital comics. Batman Beyond 2.0 goes beyond all expectations!
