The Bat-Men “Zero Hour” Part 6 of 7

So continuing from chapter 13, we now see that time has run out for Babs and the GCPD. Plus Terry and Bruce are still jailed. Kirk is ready to enact his plan… who will stop him now?

Writing:

In the previous chapter Kyle Higgins had us go through a non stop gauntlet of action for the most part. This time around his storytelling combines action with backstory. It’s interesting just how much Kirk and Bruce might be a like, but they aren’t. Both men have made mistakes in the past, and now they are living with them. I did very much pick up on the fact that Langstrom really never was a true villain. Since this is DCAU continuity, think back to BTAS “On Leather Wings” Kirk was a scientist attempting an experiment that wenht horribly wrong. He wasn’t born evil, the man-bat aserum just made him evil. Higgins does a nice job talking about these undertones here in chapter 14.

As you are reading this chapter and even the previous one…. notice that Terry got shoved into the backseat? Not saying that’d a bad thing at all, I actually find it very interesting when you take the main title character, and essentially take him out of the story. Beecause let’s face it this arc of Batman Beyond 2.0 is moreso about Bruce and his past with Langstrom. What I love about Higgins’ writing in this universe is the fact that he and his team can create 7 parter arcs, and they feel very fluid. This is chapter 6 outta 7 in the Bat-Men arc… it feels like just last month this story started. And now it’s headed towards it’s shrieking conclusion. The character development between Bruce, Terry, Dick, and Barbara has all been amazing in this arc.

Thony Silas, Emilio Lopez, and Rafael Albuquerque are all amazing with the pencils, colors, and covers! Every time I see a NEW cover for this series or a NEW title page inside the issues… I’m genuinely thrilled with each new design as these stories progress. I will say that I did find Tey’s design a little strange in this chapter, and I can’t put my finger on why that is. BUT the backgrounds, the action scenes are all well executed! I really enjoyed the jail scenes with Terry and Bruce. However I can’t say much more on those, as this is a Spoiler Free review. As I’ve said it before… I do not want any other team on this title. Between these three artists, and Kyle Higgins… the Bat Beyond Universe will look and read batastically for years to come!

Final Thoughts/Rating:

As usual….My final thought is STOP READING THIS, if you haven’t already, and go get BATMAN BEYOND 2.0 Chapter 14. It’s the sixth chapter in this 7 part story within the Batman Beyond Universe, and you won’t wanna miss a second of it! You can find it on the DC Comics App or Comixology or wherever you get your digital comics. Batman Beyond 2.0 continues to go beyond all expectations!
