The Bat-Men “Reunion” Part 1 of 1

BEFORE we get to the epic JUSTICE LORDS crossover between Batman Beyond and Justice League Beyond 2.0 we have this nice little story featuring the “former” Batgirl and Nightwing.

So this was a nice little surprise, and it’s a wonderfully written story. We have the events from the past with Babs on her wedding day as you can see from these preview images. Dick wanted to show up to say congrats on the wedding, and he rides off into the red sky. Kyle Higgins really knows these characters well, and he stays true to the DC Animated Universe. I will say that my one question is did Sam and Barbara get married this young? In the show we see them as older people. I’m wondering at what point in time did the wedding happen? LOVE the dynamic between Babs and Dick in this issue. They’ve always had  great chemistry.

After two very large, and eventful arcs here in Bat Beyond 2.0… I’m glad Kyle slowed it down here, and made it about the characters. Some might say… where is Terry? Well the way I think of it with this issue is that he’s off on a mission. I like the fact that you don’t always NEED Batman at the center stage of his title. Because well he’ll be there in the next arc. Really enjoyed reading this chapter….Kyle continues to go with the “things change” message, and it works very well.

Eric Wight who actually worked on the Batman Beyond animated series takes the art reigns here, with Emilio Lopez on the colors. This is the only place that I give a pause for this issue. Simply because Eric’s art style is COMPLETELY different from Thony’s. I do like that a character designer from the cartoon series is on the book for this chapter, but the designs make Grayson look much older than what Thony Silas has been doing. So that was one thing I didn’t particularly care for. Barbara looks more in line with her animated design in this chapter, but again I must say I enjoy seeing Thony’s designs more for her. I get it Dick and Barbara are old, but they do not have to look old and feeble. I’m not sure if Eric will be doing more in Beyond 2.0, but it was nice seeing him on the book. Even if I prefer Thony’s character designs more.

Final Thoughts/Rating:

I can’t believe I’m not giving this a perfect this time. As I stated above it was nice seeing Eric Wight on the book, but I didn’t care for his designs on Babs and Dick. That is the only reason I took a half point off the rating. You should still go get BATMAN BEYOND 2.0 Chapter 16. It’s the bridge chapter where we see more of Dick and Barbara… before the JUSTICE LORDS OF GOTHAM arrive! All within the Batman Beyond Universe, and you won’t wanna miss a second of it! You can find it on the DC Comics App or Comixology or wherever you get your digital comics. Batman Beyond 2.0 continues to go beyond all expectations!
