Justice Lords Beyond Another World “Neo World Order” Part 1 of 8
So as you read above there will be SLIGHT SPOILERS in my reviews for this entire arc. I feel that I can’t write a really great review here, without spoiling some stuff. The reason being is that I seem to repeat myself in some of these…. I mean there is only so many times I can say… “THE WRITING IS AWESOME, THE ART IS AWESOME!!!!! GO GET THESE COMICS..!!!!” etc etc etc… So I’ve decided to write spoiler filled reviews for this arc. Now these spoilers aren’t going to be major. Just little things here and there. With that said….YOU HAVE BEEN SPOILER WARNED… now onto the review!!!
Writing:
OK everyone that has been reading my reviews of the Bat Beyond 2.0 series by now should know I love everything Kyle Higgins brings to the table. Reading this first part of the story… wow! It’s like reading through a script of “Rebirth” Parts 1 and 2 from the animated series!!! Except for the twist that they throw in here. I had been reading some of the solicits for this story, but not really paying much attention to them, as I like to find out first hand what is going on. I’ll say this Kyle threw every nod he could into this from Rebirth’s two parter, and it’s absolutely amazing writing. You’ve got the JOKERZ attempting to rob the lady on the train. However the Train cops aren’t having that! As always though the JOKERZ have a few tricks up their sleeves, and they get away. I swear they need to bring the Batman Beyond cartoon back with all these stories that have gone on in this entire series!!!! From Adam Beechen’s run to Kyle’s everything is fantastic in the writing!!!
As this new arc starts and after the JOKERZ get away… We find out that a BLONDE Terry McGinnis is a JOKER!!! So we know that this is not the Gotham City we know and love in the Beuond Universe. However it’s still very exciting to see a twisted Gotham here!!! Kyle’s attention to the animated series and the DCAU in general proves a wonderful aspect as always. I will not spoil the twist at the end of the chapter here, but I’ll say that I was not expecting it at all. The other thing I found interesting was that Ten is a JOKER along with this NEW Terry. That is an awesome little twist. Part of this story is that the NEW Terry has to get Creds to pay to Zee…. and then the heartbreak happens, because of where he attempts to get them. I never thought I’d see Mary McGinnis like that ever.
Art:
Thony Silas and Emilio Lopez return on art duties as the artist and colorists. Plus Trevor McCarthy’s awesome cover!!! I love the way the colors pop during the JOKERZ scenes as they should, and I also love how there is an overtone of darkness. however we do not know what that exactly stems from.My one question for the art, and I’m not even sure if it’s a question about the writing either… Is that WHY when Terry says to AJ and Mel that he’ll meet up with them later… why do AJ and Mel hold hands as they walk away if she is Terry’s girl? Other than that the art and colors are all well done as usual. I like the differences in Blonde Terry, vs the Terry we know from our universe. The Jokerz are all magnificently drawn and colored, and the action in this chapter is very well executed.
Final Thoughts/Rating:
So with this crossover… I’ll also be writing slightly spoiler filled reviews for justice League Beyond 2.0!!!! Once again this team continues to be perfect in this series. You should go get BATMAN BEYOND 2.0 Chapter 17. It’s the beginning chapter of the JUSTICE LORDS OF GOTHAM crossover! All within the Batman Beyond Universe, and you won’t wanna miss a second of it! You can find it on the DC Comics App or Comixology or wherever you get your digital comics. Batman Beyond 2.0 continues to go beyond all expectations!
