  1. The reveal of Spider-Man is not in the same ballpark as the spoilers in the DC trailers with Doomsday. For one we knew Spider-Man was going to be in the movie already with Doomsday being a completely CGI character it wasn’t known at the time–at least to the same extent. And the reveal of Doomsday is not just a character reveal but provides you insight into the plot on how the movie is going to basically end. The entire film is built upon the premise of Batman v Superman but by showing the Trinity teaming up you utterly deflate the promise of that premise. Now its Batman v Superman for a little bit until this other thing you now know about will happen.

Showing Spider-Man doesn’t nearly have the same effect. Would it be great if they waited till the film? Sure, but if they did I bet you’d have the same people complaining about why aren’t they showing Spider-Man like they did when the last trailer came out.

I also think for a marketing standpoint it would be idiotic not to show him. Doomsday isn’t putting butts in seats. Spider-Man will certainty. You are talking about 20 seconds that could easily gain Marvel an additional 20-30 million dollars. Not that they are hurting for cash but look at the difference between the reactions and impact of the last Batman V Superman trailer and this. The BVS trailer came and went where this caused the excitement for the film to increase 10 fold.

Speaking as a Spider-Man fan that loves classic Ditko and Ross art I thought the costume works tremendously. I think the only reason it reminds you of the TV version is because doesn’t have the same definition of all movie tights have had since the first Spider-Man movie. The raised texture that at this point I’m tired of honestly. Finally we are getting a comic book costume that isn’t afraid to show color. Personally love the movable eyes since its been a huge staple of the character since the beginning. I don’t really care how they explain it as I’ve never had an issue with it never being explained in the comics. Being tech is kind of weird but its also a nice little nod to the Iron Spidey costume in way.

Let’s not also forget this is the fourth Spider-Man costume in a movie. They needed to be able to set him apart while still making him look like Spider-Man. For me they did that. It’s not my favorite Marvel costume. With all the Spider-Man talk people are over looking how amazing Black Panther looks. I’m in the minority but I’m more interested in that character than Spider-Man to be honest, because I’ve been waiting for him to appear on Screen since Wakanda was shown in the background in the first Avengers.

  3. I get what Mike is saying with the comparison of why stories that work for animated movies should work in live action. At times I myself wonder why they don’t just repeat the same success and stick to the source material more. When you think about it though you can get away with a lot more in animated films and have to explain a whole lot less. Let’s look at Flashpiont. Look at how much is introduced in that story with no explanation. Cyborg, Zoom, and others are introduced with no backstory whatsoever. They talk about the speed force and never mention what exactly it is. They kind of just assume people watching know Flash can go back in time. Considering this would be the first time characters like Cyborg, Wonder Woman, and Flash are in movies I don’t think you could get away with that for a big budget franchise film.

Now Deadpool and other comic book movies have shown you don’t have to explain everything. Still it is not as simple as taking one story and throwing it into live action and calling it a day. I too am on the side that thinks people are complaining way too much about too many characters being in the Batman v Superman movie. I doubt many will have much more than cameos. The worry in my mind is if they are going to waste great material trying to build a universe in one movie. Clearly they are taking from Dark Knight Returns which makes sense because it’s one of the best comics of all time. Now it’s one of the best without having tons and tons of characters in it. You start flooding the market with more and more characters just for shits and giggles and you can easily dilute one of the best stories of all time. If this was a straight up Justice League origin I wouldn’t see a problem. From everything I’ve read and seen this movie screams of too many cooks in the kitchen. All of which have different agendas of what they want this movie to do. Now that’s purely speculative mind you. From the early reviews I’ve glanced at I didn’t see that complaint come up. So who knows what exactly will take place.

  5. Things I haven’t seen mentioned yet in the Civil War trailer:

1)Instead of “Project 42” in the negative zone we get a play on the Raft prison base. Honestly I think that’s even cooler. Because that’s where the Thunderbolts were recruited… I’m surprised nobody has mentioned this!

    2) Damage and deaths tolls on the screens during the meeting: New York=18.8billion in damages, 77 deaths Wasington= 2.8 billion, 23 deaths Sokovia = 474 billion, 177 deaths

    6) GOD DAMN Abomination!!!! (well I think) look when Stark sucker punches Cap, behind them is a massive cryo-chamber of sorts with a large being that appears to be sitting in a chair. Lots of monitoring equipment around.. if that’s not Abomination then I’ll eat my hat.

Random note: Cap’s shield is always weirdly jarring CGI in the trailers but I’ve never noticed it during the movie, hopefully its the same for spidey.
