Kevin’s Lists: Top 50 Movies of the 00s

In the last couple of months I have given you the first two installments of my ‘Top 50 Movie Lists’ with the Top 50 Eighties Movies and Top 50 Nineties Movies. Before 2010 ends I thought I should get around to giving you the third installment, Top 50, um, Two-Thousands, Double Zeroes, Aught-Aught, dangit, you get the point! I will say that this was definitely the hardest decade to narrow down the list to just 50 movies. I easily could have made a Top 100 List for this decade since it was filled with so many great films!

All of the following have gone into the ranking of this list to varying degrees: Critical Acclaim, Awards, Box Office Numbers, Personal Bias, Defining the Decade, Originality, Best of a Genre or Series

[A few Disclaimers]

#1: The following movies were not eligible to make my list due to the fact that I have NOT seen them yet :( I will be trying to watch these movies one by one through [Netflix] so each one will have a chance to break into my Top 50 as time passes.

  1. I completely agree with you on Gladiator being the best of the decade but Avatar at number 40!? I found it immensely original and something ‘new’ in a long time on cinema as well as “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”.

    1. I personally liked some of this list. I think now I am doing my own list for the decade doing my top 50 haha. Joking aside, I do think some were ranked a little lower / higher. “Avatar” original or not I care nothing for in any department. I would have to say it’d be in the Top 50 but I think that it was more hype than it was worth. There were plenty of other movies out that deserved to beat it. As for “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”, I care nothing for it either. I have seen bits and pieces but again not my cup of tea.

  2. I love your taste in movies – because we’ve got the same taste! Haha! I would also rank Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind and Count of Monte Cristo in the top 3 for that year. I’ve seen a couple of the movies on the list of movies you haven’t seen yet – and trust me, you’re not missing out on much.

    Cheers,
