In the past myself or MovieRevoltDan have had blogs dedicated to the Best Movie Scenes of a given year. I would like to carry on with that tradition here. However, as I was thinking back on the year I wasn’t satisfied with giving you guys simply my favorite overall scenes and instead decided to expand this idea to encompass a variety of ‘Movie Moments’. So without further ado, here are my favorite Movie Moments from 2015.
Best Fight:
Nominees:
Tyrannosaurus Rex vs. Indominus Rex
Matt Damon vs. Space
Brian Wilson vs. Brian Wilson
The Boston Globe vs. The Catholic Church
Winner:
Rey vs. Kylo Ren
Although not all of the nominees may be fighting in the traditional sense Kylo Ren and Rey are fighting in EVERY sense. I think the dynamic between the two of these characters is a huge reason in why The Force Awakens works as well as it did. Whether we are talking about the mind battles that are being waged during the interrogation scene or the lightsaber battle that occurs in the film’s climax, this was an ongoing fight that left audiences and fans wanting more. Luckily for everybody, this is a fight that isn’t over.
Best Ending:
Nominees:
Spotlight
Beasts of No Nation
Slow West
Danny Collins
Winner:
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
I apologize in advance for coming across as a complete Star Wars fanboy but it’s hard to deny how excellently the ending of The Force Awakens was handled. In one scene they single handedly assured just as much anticipation for Episode 8 as there was for Episode 7, and that’s pretty impressive.
Best Musical Moment:
Nominees:
Pirates singing Nirvana
Andre’s Serenade
Fury Road Guitarist
Baby Doll
Winner:
The Dance Scene
Not much can be said that hasn’t already been said when it comes to the Dance Scene in Ex Machina. It is one of the most out of left field, catch you by surprise and leave you in stitches kind of scene you could possibly think of and is easily the winner here.
Most Ridiculous Movie Moment:
Nominees:
The Yell
The Casting of Chris Hemsworth
Kevin Nash’s “Dancing”
Every Moment of Hugh Jackman’s
They gave this film the Green Light
The Rock Piloting Everything
No One is Taken
High Heels
Raptors and Bikes
Winner:
The Bus Escape/Skyscraper Jump/Matrix Fight/Cast Escape
In other words, the whole film, Furious 7 wins this award. I mean honestly I could list 100 other moments from this one. The Rock watching his own game in the hospital, the cars jumping out of the plane, surviving driving off of a cliff, saving lives with memories, the Rock Bottom, etc. I don’t think anything is more ridiculous than The Rock busting out of that cast though. But hey, its a Fast and Furious film so it’s to be expected and I’m probably going to get hate for calling any of it ridiculous…it’s suppose to be, I forgot…
Best Movie Moment:
Nominees:
The Send Off
The Super Bowl
The Millennium Falcon Reunion
Concert in Detroit
Dinner Party Scene (aka The Hammer Scene)
The Dancing Scene
Death Montage
The Standoff
The Church Scene
Winner:
Border Crossing
No moment or scene in 2015 was handled better than the Border Crossing scene in Sicario. The way they crafted this scene would have had a comatose grandpa on the edge of his seat. The level of dramatic tension and uncertainty you felt was palpable to the point that you felt like you were in a car on that road observing what was going on. It was just another reason why this film was one of the best films of the year when all is said and done.
