NEW Album “SCREAMIN’ AT THE SKY” releases 9-29-23!
Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023. In my 194th entry, I’ll be talking about Black Stone Cherry’s song Screamin’ At The Sky!
What a lead off track, when the boys of BSC start an album, they come out swingin’ fer the fences! This track has a beginning guitar lick like you’ve never heard before, and as always with John Fred Young on the drums, that backbeat is amazing. Steve Jewell Jr and Ben Wells with guitars and that bass that bottoms out so well! This foursome is one of the best bands EVER! They are always thinking, and they are always giving us what we need when we need it, even if we didn’t know we needed it. The title is Screamin’ At The Sky, and Chris Robertson is definitely doing that. With lyrics like:
“Oh Lord, get me a witness
I need to say what I’m feeling
We’ve had enough of this shit
You know we all need some healing
Tears are brief but the grief
Lasts a lifetime
Let’s start a fire let it burn out the silence
That’s killing us inside
Let’s paint a picture so we always remember
Screaming at the sky!”
They are telling us a story that we can all feel in our bones! The ironic thing with me listening to this track is that a few years ago when Karen and I were living in Illinois… There were times when I needed to be out in our driveway, looking up at the sky, and just let out a few long screams. I did this to let my temper cool off when something didn’t go the way it was supposed to. Luckily our neighbors were at least 100 feet or so away from our house, and the ones to the left of our house were spending the winter in Arizona… So it was ok, I only did this a few times with the year and a half that we lived there.
BSC 8 Screamin’ At The Sky starts with the title track, and then flows into NERVOUS, which I already talked about., and wowzers y’all… What a way to kick off the new album!
