  1. Well, I’ve- wow, no one’s commented yet? Huh. Anyway, I guess I’ll respond by putting my Top Ten, I’m not gonna explain any of them except for the last one, since the rest of them made the list:

    1. M*A*S*H
    2. Seinfeld
    3. Cheers
    4. All in the Family
    5. The West Wing
    6. The Dick Van Dyke Show
    7. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
    8. Roseanne
    9. The Honeymooners
    10. The Mary Tyler Moore Show- which is the highest ranked show I had that missed the list, and yes, it should’ve been up there, and I think you guys may have a point about the lack of female voters, ’cause “MTM” especially, is basically the icon of the feminist movement, and basically did it, by not bringing that up at all. She’s single, working, no kids, frustrating dating life, that was revolutionary at the time, and it’s funny as hell. There’s easily 3 or 4 episodes of this show that would rank on somebody Top 100 of all-time. Arguably the greatest supporting characters of all-time. And it’s still relevant, I mean, “30 Rock”, made the list and that’s literally the same show. Tina Fey will say that, TV producer, arguing with boss that’s the exact opposite, trying to get crazy characters around her to behave, terrible dating life, it’s still the prototype, it’s still relevant, still funny, absolutely should’ve been on the list, and very high.

So, let’s go to, what did you guys do, the Top Ten on my ballot that weren’t on the list, let’s see:
    10. The Mary Tyler Moore Show
    12. The Jack Benny Program-Watch Jack Benny and “The Dick Van Dyke Show” on a loop, and you’ll learn everything you ever need to know about comedy. Benny in particular, was the Louis C.K. of his day. Really, he didn’t want to do TV, they kept offering, and he had complete freedom. Some episodes are sitcom, others are Variety show, others are sketches, others are backstage of the Variety show, he didn’t care, he did whatever was funniest for what had to work with. Go back, Jack Benny was funny as hell and had complete power to do anything he wanted.
    14. Hill Street Blues-Yeah, having “NYPD Blue” on the list, fine, but not having “Hill Street Blues” higher, eh, not great. I mean, if you’re a cop drama, you’re either stealing from “Dragnet” or you’re stealing from “Hill Street Blues”, (Unless, maybe you’re “The Shield”) and watch it lately, it still holds up. It’s arguably the first great modern drama series.
    16. Taxi- This one got brought up, absolutely should be on the list too. Great show, basically the early work of everybody that would create “Cheers”, great cast, great writing, funny as hell. Really, should be up there.
    19. Columbo-Yeah, I didn’t have too many mystery or detective, ’cause in hindsight a lot of them are pretty similar to each other, but I’m glad to here “Columbo” got some votes at least. Best of the detective, plus it was the unusual one, it’s was the “howcatchem”, not a “Whodunit”, a How-you-catch-’em, show, that was unique for the time, and even today still. That dynamic is rare.
    20. Late Night with David Letterman-(Eh, this one doesn’t count since “The Late Show” made it)
    21. Coupling-I mentioned this show before, but check it out, it’s “Friends” meets “Sex and the City” but like 20x funnier than both of them. Steven Moffatt created it btw, and yeah, Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Who sci-fi, that’s impressive writing, but trust me, sex farce, an entire genre based on repeating this same joke “Someone walks into the room, someone who shouldn’t be there, is there, and naked”, over and over again, and making that funny, IMPOSSIBLE! And he does it. Yeah, I didn’t give “Three’s Company” a vote, ’cause this show does it the best.
    23. Soap- Doesn’t get the credit it deserves, groundbreaking, first show to parody another genre, there’d be no “Arrested Development” without it, no “Desperate Housewives”, no, a lot of shows on this list and more.
    27. L.A. Law- No, David E. Kelley show, at all?! WTH? Wow, no “Ally McBeal,” no “The Practice”, no “Doogie Howser, M.D.”? I had two, “L.A. Law”, the first and still the best of the lawyer shows, as well as “Boston Legal”, the strangest and most fun of the lawyer shows that David E. Kelley’s made popular; wow, we missed somebody huge there.
    37. The Phil Silvers Show-Oh, the great first conman of television, Sgt. Bilko! Yeah, I mentioned how I didn’t think “Community” should’ve been on the list, eh, I suspect that show wishes it was like this show, just college instead of military. Random group of people, lead by a con-artist of some kind, getting into dozens of different schemes that seem outrageous. Yeah, Phil Silvers does it better, and with more abandon and anarchy.
    38. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip- I thought it was great; I don’t know why people don’t care for Aaron Sorkin’s behind-the-scenes of TV shows, shows, this was his best to me and it shouldn’t just be a punchline.

Okay, now, TOP TEN that shouldn’t be on the list, just to annoy some people:
    1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer-I’m sorry, Joss Whedon’s terrible. Ugh, he’s not a good writer, and with this show in particular, he was talking down to it’s teenage girl instead of talking up to them, that’s a no-no for me. i think it’s reprehensible.
    2. Lost- I stand by it, this show never worked. Create mystery within mysteries, after you create drama, it’s not the drama itself. Ugh, bunch of people trying to survive on an island, and he can’t find drama without flashbacks, what the hell?
    3. All Superhero shows-Yeah, I’m cheating, but none of them belong on the list, either they’re not good enough, or at best they’re too young to be on here. (Although “Dexter”, the best version of “Batman” in TV history, didn’t make it? Weird)
    4. Supernatural-It’s the kiddie version of “The X-Files”, and not done as well. I don’t get it.
    5. Saved By the Bell-i don’t know, I can understand dumb that doesn’t hold up and gets remember later, like say “The Brady Bunch” for cultural importance making the list, but, “Saved By the Bell”, eh, I don’t think so. Nostalgia goggles.
6.Firefly-, I don’t hate it like other Whedon shows, but, (sigh) no.
    7. The Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr.-
    8. Knight Rider-, Yeah, for both of these, there’s better in the genre.
    9. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine-I think it’s the weakest of the “Star Trek” show, other than “Enterprise”.
    10. Freaks and Geeks- This was never funny to me, just painful mostly at best, annoying at worst. I know a lot of people started there, but, (Shrugs) yeah, there’s better coming-of-age shows.

Alright, list was fun, thanks for allowing me to participate. Can’t wait ’til the next one!

    34. Six Feet Under-As good as “The Sopranos” were, it basically was a film version of all the great Mafia movies we had up until that point. “Six Feet Under” as far as HBO family dramas go however, was uniquely original to anything before it. Quirky, smart, slick, funny, characters we hadn’t seen before on television; yeah, this was the better show; I stand by that. This was a new approach to the genre that we hadn’t seen before.
    37. The Phil Silvers Show-Oh, the great first conman of television, Sgt. Bilko! Yeah, I mentioned how I didn’t think “Community” should’ve been on the list, eh, I suspect that show wishes it was like this show, just make it college instead of the military. 4. Glad to hear everyone’s thoughts on the overall countdown. Pretty much in agreement with everyone about the list. Some issues for sure. I’m glad shows like Flash and Daredevil made the list even if they were too high.

  6. I sent in an email. Did you not get it? I sent it to the email provided.

    1. Yeah I wasn’t present on the show and so it wasn’t in the initial recorded responses. I had the emails but forgot to send them to Mike so we brought in a clip towards the end of it to respond and read it. Sorry about that.

  8. The whole, I like this show so I voted it number one so it would make the list doesn’t sit well with me. You should vote for something based on what it deserves not because you want to stuff the ballot box to get your friend in who doesn’t really deserve the spot. It explains a lot honestly and why some shows where much too high than they should and some way too low.
