Talking in Circles – 107 – Food Face Off

TinC-ipod

Warning this week’s episode may cause extreme hunger and cases of the munchies. That is because we are debuting a brand new game Food Face-off where we are put to the test with some of the hardest food choices ever. Before that Dan has a review of AMC’s Turn, Greg has another book review, and we discuss the trailers for X-Men: Apocalypse and The Killing Joke. (Make sure to listen to the very end because we have another bonus Adventure for you to enjoy)

  1. Thanks for this episode now I need to gorge myself on every good ever. Lol

  2. So I never heard of Old Forage style pizza before what is that? I’ve had California, deep dish, new York but never that.

    1. “Old Forge” its the name of the town. It’s basically square cut pizza that uses American cheese instead of mozzarella. It started back in the 1930s when this pizza shop owner didn’t have any clean round trays left so she made pizza on rectangular trays and it took off from there.

      1. Oh that’s cool. I wondered cause even when you aren’t in areas you hear their types of pizza like Chicago or New York style pizza advertised in places no where near there. If I ever travel to that area I’ll have to try some and see if its worthy of its reputation.

  4. Man you guys made me miss my trips to Philly when we’d get some awesome cheese steaks. I live in the midwest now and it’s just not the same. Anything that doesn’t have corn as a main ingredient tends to stink.

  6. I’ll add my list to the people who love food talk. I’d love to see you guys do like a video podcast where you test different foods and debate over which ones you like the best. With all the different foods and restaurants you are describing I’d like to see the actual food as well to go with the audio. That would be awesome.

    1. I doubt we’d ever do a video show to be honest. Partially because I live far away from Greg and Chuck, but mostly I don’t have much interest. I dabbled in trying to do some video essays but didn’t have the time needed to make them good or equipment to make them worth watching.

  8. First off, what in god’s name is a ‘tray’ of pizza? Just kidding, I know what it is, interesting to hear regional terms come up from time to time! I know other areas call them pies, etc etc. To me there are only two types of pizza, New York and Chicago and I by far prefer the deep dish chicago style where you can barely eat two slices before being full. It’s also interesting to hear the take on ‘chain’ pizzas, most people simply don’t realize the differences those places actually do provide, My favorite is the Barbecue lovers pizza which has a honey barbecue base, bacon, ham, pork, mozzarella cheese, and then a toasted cheddar on the crust with barbecue drizzle after it cooks. A lot of people also love the chicken bacon ranch and a few other ‘non-traditional’ pizzas that are offered

When it comes to Mexican, which I do love from time to time, I could never choose it over another style I don’t think. It literally is the same 6 ingredients wrapped up in different ways or disguised. I know there are more varieties than this, My favorite are enchiladas and chimichangas but I generally don’t like tacos due to a distaste for the taco seasoning traditionally. I do love Chipotle although like you guys I wish they had Qdoba’s queso!

I think you guys sold Italian way short. No one mentioned the huge varieties of pastas, lasagna, great breadsticks etc etc. The one major point that goes against Italian and Chinese however is the desserts, they are god awful. We do have a bunch of Chinese buffets around here and while I know there are horror stories about many buffets, the ones we frequent are amazing! Tons of selection, I agree with the coconut chicken, another favorite is their crab medleys/casseroles.

Oh yea, Maybe its because I’m not from the Philly area and in the midwest we are all about livestock, pulled pork, barbecue, steaks etc but that one would be a no brianer for me. The idea of putting cheese wiz or anything even remotely like that on a sandwich makes me sick to my stomach.

I know there’s a lot more I wanted to comment on, but I forgot to take notes while I listened…it was tough, I was mowing the yard! Thanks for making me hungry though!!

    1. I guess I just don’t eat a lot of italian to be honest. I’m a fan of the spicy food and although Mexican food has like three ingredients its all the ones I like lol .

When it comes to cheesteaks the cheese wiz thing is mostly in Philly. Personal prefer American or if I’m feeling risky pepperjack.

  10. I am hoping after Apocalypse the X-Men get more comic booky costumes. I liked what they did with the first class because it was not quite black leather and not quite full comic book level either. If the next one is in the 90s they need to get the Jim Lee costumes.

    1. I would be in favor of that for sure. Setting it in the 90’s may allow them to get away with looking ridiculous too!

    1. That would be amazing. Plus i think people would buy it. It fits the time period because the 90s were all about bright colors.
