Talking in Circles – Episode 09 – The Power of Names

talkingincircles--featured

What’s in a name? A Superman by any other name would be just as powerful. That may be true but that doesn’t mean we can’t have any fun judging a superhero by his title. This week we are debuting another brand new game called “The Power of Names” where we see how far just a name can get you. Before we get to that we have a lot to discuss including Dan’s thoughts on True Detective, a second look at Turtles Forever, and a discussion of the guy’s favorite disaster movies.  Well we can certainly say one thing, when it comes to our podcast the name does say it all. In this latest episode we are undoubtedly Talking In Circles.

  1. Just starting listening to this podcast. I haven’t gotten to this episode yet but I have enjoyed what I heard so far.

    1. Glad to hear! We are constantly covering random topics and doing new things so each week has it’s surprises.

  2. Big thumbs up on the game. II was a lot of fun to listen to and play along with. I got all right except Lobster Johnson. Did not expect that.

      1. I had to laugh when I heard “And then it got stuck”. Bad mental image lol.

          1. That was funny, I didn’t catch that till I listened to the episode haha

  3. You stumbled onto one of my all time favorite genres disaster and post apocalyptic movies which I see going hand and hand. Any of the Dead movies are high on my list, some of the newer monster movies like Cloverfield, and Omega Man and the remake I am Legend are cool too. Though the short story is much better

    1. Cloverfield was pretty good, I think it was underrated. I’m guessing you are excited for the new Godzilla then?

    2. I agree with you. I love the short story. The movies are okay but neither gets to the heart of that story.

  4. Time for me to be a curmudgeon. I didn’t care for the name game. Maybe because I am not a fan of Whose Line but as Josh Baskin said in BIG “I don’t get it.” I think it would have been more interesting to hear about comic book characters that almost made it to print but didn’t get past the review board. I am very sorry. Chuck’s analysis of the Core was good. The science was a bit off but entertaining just the same. I agree with Dan on the Andromeda Strain, old and new. I also agree with Greg on the Poseidon Adventure, old not new. Great films. Chuck, the new mic sounded good.

    1. I feel like someone died. haha No, worries about not being into the game. We are just trying to find different stuff that might be interesting. They all can’t be winners.

    2. Don’t sweat it, Whose Line games aren’t for everyone I guess. It was my lackluster effort in creativity that did it I think lol and thanks glad the mic sounded good.

    3. Thanks for the feedback. As Greg mentioned we are about trying new things see how they go and adjusting. Can I ask what about the game in particular you didn’t care for. It’ll help us improve on it next time.

  5. The Power of Names…was interesting. I love the shot at Jenny Mccarthy and he dumbness. Some of the others were good too. My favorite disaster movies are The Perfect Storm, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, and Armageddon.

  6. Must say I love the Name of the Name game. The POWER of Names. When I read it I said it like good old He-Man! Cool concept. Was fun and I’d like to see it again.

Not a fan of disaster movies really. They tend to have 15 minutes of awesomeness and 75 minutes of dullness.

    1. I swing more towards 15 minutes of awesomeness and then the 75 other minutes go towards ridiculous. I like ridiculous though.

      1. Sometimes ridiculousness. Something like 2012 is two hours of ridiculousness.

        1. The whole premise for that movie is ridiculous. The whole Mayan apoc. was ridiculous to me.
