  1. Great episode guys. Gotta say I don’t get some of the criticisms you guys had for Jurassic World. I totally respect your opinion but most of the negatives you give weren’t an issue for me. The military thing, it didn’t bother me because they didn’t actually have US military represented in the film as far as I remember. They showed mercenaries, and D’onofrio was just one guy (who worked for Ingen) and to me seemed like sort of a rogue character out to make money. It’s not like a 4 star general came to the island and said “yeah I want these.” It is a bit of a strange scheme tho I grant you but hey, Stalin tried to create Ape soldiers in the 20s so there are definitely some loons out there. The world building, I actually thought they showed more locations on the island than the orginal. And with the new rides and getting people up close to dinos, it makes sense not to have the really dangerous species roaming around. Also, it was an interesting idea that Chris Pratt was taking the role of 3 people from the original film, but I didn’t get that impression at all. He stood out to me as his own character and someone entirely different and was fantastic. I know its hard not to compare JW to the original JP, but I was fine with the new directions they took. Not everything needs to necessarily fulfill a role from the original. The nostalgic references only added to it for me personally. And as far as the logic for some sequences, I agree some things made no sense. But to be completely honest, the original JP had some issues with logic as well. i.e.: The dinos were only restrained by electric fence? They didn’t anticipate a situation where the power would go out? And how easy the T-rex broke through the fence (with his strong hand). Hammond being okay with systems being shut down when his grandchildren were out there. Only one guy knows Jurassic Park’s systems inside and out? Jeep doors not locking. My point is only to be careful not to be too awful hard on Jurassic World. If we look hard enough there are serious issues with even our favorite films. But don’t get me wrong you guys bring up alot of great points. I do agree about the child actors, in both movies the younger sibling was better than the older. And I also agree Bryce Dallas Howard didn’t work as well as she could have. Anyway just my opinion, I totally get it if you disagree. I wasn’t trying to rip into you guys but it sounded that way lol. I really liked the review! Very good insight.

    1. Okay gotcha. I agree there were some hints of those guys and it is a shame that couldn’t be fleshed out more but it ended up working out for me. And I agree there was a ton of added suspense in the original knowing anything could be lurking in the trees. All in all I really enjoyed this movie. For whatever reason it got me all giddy inside again like a kid.

      1. That’s awesome. That’s what movies are supposed to do or at least we hope they do!

    2. I agree. I had a lot of fun with it too and didn’t have an issue with the military part of it. If you compare it to the original it is easier to be harsh on it. But if you let it be its own thing its much better.

    1. Thanks for the detailed response! Love hearing listeners thoughts! I think you may have misinterpreted what I said about Pratt. I agree he was something different and he was the highlight of the film actor wise. I was only saying that it seemed like certain points of view that were represented by Muldoon, Grant and Malcolm from the first one were all in some ways represented by Pratt in this one but that none of them were extensively fleshed out because that would be hard to do with one character and only so much screen time. I agree it makes sense not to have as many dangerous species…I was just saying that the danger of what you could ‘run into’ was something that added suspense for me in the first film. We may not have seen someone in military uniform but I swear they referenced the military a dozen times as least. Again, agree with all your points about the original JP as well. Keep listening and giving your thoughts man!!

  3. I like the concept of mashing Alien with Jurassic Park, but why not The Edge with Jurrasic Park. A small group of explorers crash onto Jurassic Park island and have to fight to survive being hunted by the T-Rex. The leader of the explorers: Liam Neesons!

    1. These are both really good ideas. I like the concept of back to basics. That can really reinvigorate a franchise. And I love The Edge!

  4. For Jurassic World I see them moving forward the the military aspect of the Dinosaurs. Or why not make it really small like Alien but with Dinosaurs. Someone’s on a ship or something and there’s a raptor hunting them down. You’d have the kitchen sequence stretched out to an entire movie or something.

  5. Have you seen the photos of the concept art for the Dino soldiers that the next movie was going to be. As long as that is not the way they go with it I’ll be happy.

  6. Have you guys heard the fan theory circulating about Jurassic World? It claims that the annoying kid at the dig site in the first film that Grant scares the crap out of by talking about Raptors is actually the young version of Chris Pratt’s character Owen. After hearing this scary explaination by Grant, he develops a fascination with Raptors and takes the opportunity at JW when it comes up. The actor from the original tweeted that its totally untrue, but I guess fans can think what they like since I doubt anyone will ever clarify it.

    1. I’ve heard that. I don’t think its true at all, because we all know Chris Pratt was in space for most his childhood so it couldn’t have been him.

  9. Being short on listening content, I decided to listen to the podcast. My wife and I had been to see Jurassic World, so I enjoyed the discussion. Actually, I enjoyed the podcast overall. I will just comment that I was surprised at the audio quality. It doesn’t seem very good in comparison to other GCR shows on which I have heard Dan and Kevin, in particular. I’m listening to another episode now and it has the same quality issue.

    1. Curious what you are hearing or what about the audio is bad quality? Hopefully that way we can pinpoint it and fix it. I haven’t heard this before or when I’m listening so just hoping for a starting point.

      1. The audio quality sounds muffled. It isn’t as clear as it normally is on other shows I have heard you guys on. It sounds like you guys are talking with buckets over your heads.

        1. Interesting, we will take a look at that and try to figure out what you are hearing there. It may be my recording program so I’ll look into it for sure! Thanks for the feedback!

  11. “Boys will always love Dinosaurs” -OpSolo

Ummm outside of the Dinobots…. I haven’t “loved” Dinosaurs since I was 12 years old. I just can’t get into the genre that uses them anymore, whether it be animated or not.

    1. You’re making my point! I didn’t say men will always love dinosaurs…some may or some may not. I said “boys”, as in no matter what decade it is, every boy seems to have a dinosaur phase of some sort
