Geeks:
Kevin @OptimusSolo
Dan @MovieRevolt
Amanda @HardCandiMandi
I have to say when I looked at Amanda’s list I was scratching my head a little bit at some of her choices, but in the actual episode she back them up fully. Now don’t know if I buy Final Destination as the best representation of human’s relationship with death. I’ll comment on my list later but for now I would go with Kevin’s.The one film stopping me from picking Amanda’s list is Patch Adams. I despise the movie greatly.Dan’s list isn’t bad either. I just never watched a couple of the movies he listed.
Thanks for giving my list a chance! But don’t let one movie be the deciding factor! Patch Adams was full of heart, what didn’t you like about it?
It tries to earn an emotional reaction with the worst type of pandering and melodrama. Its like beating a puppy on screen for thirty minutes to make you feel sad.
i don’t think there is a better film to showcase compassion and love in human nature.
Patch Adams was an under rated gem of a film and one of Robin Williams’ most touching films of that era
I have to agree with Kevin’s list. Some I question why they weren’t there but others I question why they were. But overall I agree with Kevin’s list more than the other two lists.
Without much thought I can pull these to mind. Granted if I really thought about it more I may have some alternate choices but to me this is the one I’d go with:
The Lion King
Incredibles
Jurassic Park
Star Wars
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
E.T.
Shawshank Redemption
Back to the Future
Wizard of Oz
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
In the ep we go in more detail. Its more than just picking ten good movies. Certain themes we were considering with each pick. I tried to get my personal taste out of it as much as I could.

Star
Wars-how can you not have it. Greatest movie of all time period.
Die Hard –
greatest action movie of all time. One of the best characters of all time, and
funny as well.
Tombstone –
I agree you have to have a western and Tombstone is the best in my book.
Akira – one of
the best animated/anime films.
Back to the Future
– Huge pop culture impact. Is everything I look for in popcorn fun.
12 Angry men
– one of my favorite classic films, Not only that but it holds up today. A lot
of what they argue about then we still argue about now.
Stand By Me –
no film better shows friendship and what it means to grow up than this.
Airplane –
You need a comedy. I’d either go with this or Naked Gun.
Goodfellas –
I like this more than Godfather. Gangsters are a big part of movie history.
Dark Knight –
Superhero films are dominated the last fifteen years or so, and they aren’t
going to stop anytime soon.
Curious, did you listen to our discussion on the show?
I did. I know my choices are as in-depth or thoughtful as you guys lol. I’m not that creative.
Hey don’t say that, we had a lot of crossover lol
Friendship is a good theme to focus on. Again something else I didn’t even consider.

I have to say that I love this idea, and has sparked a lot of debate with me and my friends. I do like how all of your lists are so varied. That’s awesome to see. Also makes it hard to choose. Kevin having ET and Star Wars makes me want ot go with me, but I hated Les Mis so there is that, but Back to the Future brings me back in.
Yes vote for Kevin!! haha

Dan’s list is great for sure! I’d say we all had pretty equal diverse lists, I actually was super impressed with how diverse all three lists were. Maybe you define diverse differently? Did you listen to the record? Just curious, I did mention Casablanca and a few others in my discussion. I’m actually not surprised one bit that Godfather/Goodfellas did not appear anywhere. In listening to the framing of what we were trying to accomplish, although both would be on my personal list of ‘favorite’ AND ‘best’ films, neither really fits the criteria of what we were aiming for.
I voted for Dan’s list. He had the most diversity and only one that had true classic films. Am I the only one who is super surprised no one mentioned Goodfellas or Godfather yet? Those would have been on the top of my list.

You are a smart person. I love both Goodfellas and Godfather, but didn’t really have any of the themes I was looking for.
My list:
It’s a Wonderful Life because it shows just how important one man can be, and how we can overlook what makes us special.
8 1/2- I would rate this as one of the best movies of all time. I agree with the idea of a movie about movies, and this is that and so much more. There should be one movie that shows film can be existential and this is it.
2001: A Space Odyssey- If you want a movie that exhibits what
it means to be human why no the movie that tells the story of the history of
man.
To Kill A Mockingbird: You need a movie that shows what it means to
be a hero. Atticus Fitch is one of the best.
The Lion King – I agree with pretty much everything Kevin said about this movie. So I’ll steal a choice from him.
Jaws – Man vs nature! You have to have that somewhere.
Apocalypse Now – Man vs. Man. – War is a key to humans right? We love to do it all the time. And Apocalypse Now shows he depths of war.
When Harry Met Sally-Yes this may be out of left field but romance and comedy are a big part of who we are. This is my personal favorite in that genre.
Star Wars—Everything that was said. Needs to be seen by aliens someplace.
The Exorcist – A movie about religion and the purest horror movie ever.
Shawshank Redemption – You talk about hope and a movie full mof feels. This has it. Friendship as well is a big part of this.
Great list and great reasoning. Unfortunately due to the inclusion of 2001, I’ll have to alter the route of your capsule so no one gets a hold of it ;)
I didn’t even think about including a war movie, but I think you are right about needing one. Don’t know if I’d go Apocalypse Now or not. Good choices either way.

I would include 5 copies of Team America World Police and 5 copies of Dark Crystal so they think we are some sort of weird puppet people.
Lol. That is not a bad idea.
