Overall, I thought it was one of the better Rumbles in recent memory, innit.
Things I liked!
The Rumble match, for the most part was really good. It wasn’t without its flaws (I’ll get to them in a bit) but it was never boring, it had oodles of star power, a memorable debut, kick-started 2-3 potentially huge feuds, and for the first time in 4 years, it sent the crowd home happy (whether it was supposed to or not)
Overall this Rumble set up major future feuds better than any in recent memory. Brock and Wyatts has some great potential.
Sammi Sayn making his return! Can’t wait for his rematch with Owens. It will be epic.
AJ’s DMX entrance music is a thing of beauty
Owens vs Ambrose was awesome and an early (American) MOTYC
The women’s match was great, and easily the best non-NXT Divas match since the days of Trish vs Lita. It had a big-match atmosphere, and even in defeat, Becky got over huge. And the Sasha Banks return pop was immense. Charlotte vs Becky vs Sasha at Mania should be incredible
There wasn’t a single bad match all night. ADR vs Kalisto and New Day vs Usos were fun while they lasted, and Kalisto winning was a nice surprise
Stuff I didn’t like!
HHH winning the Rumble without cheating. There’s no injustice, so no reason for me to want to see him lose the belt. He won it fair and square, so why should I care?
If they’re hell-bent on making Roman look strong, they should do that. Having him walk out on the match so he could sit backstage and chill for 20 minutes only to waltz back out and start eliminating guys who had been busting their ass out there didn’t make Roman look strong. It achieved the opposite, in fact
The camera work in the Rumble was ridiculous. Focusing on Roman with such single-mindedness that the camera missed AJ’s entrance was only eclipsed by the camera missing Kofi’s elimination and said elimination not being shown until ten minutes after it occurred in terms of incompetence
Flair sexually assaulting Becky. What the fuck were they thinking? Just unspeakably stupid on every conceivable level
