  1. I have heard a lot of discussion this week on 12 Years a Slave, and honestly this is one of my favorite episodes by far. Maybe your best episode so far. Such an interesting discussion that got at some points I have heard no one talking about. Majorly impressed.

With that sad, I do disagree with a few things you mentioned. For one I did not see any issue with all the different shots of nature, and felt they did serve a purpose. It set the mood among many other things, plus they just looked beautiful, no doubt purposefully to contradict everything else on screen. I also don’t see any issue with Brad Pitt’s performance. Was it the best in the film? No. But it was still good.

    1. I’m not 100% saying that the nature shots didn’t serve a purpose – I believe we mentioned that it definitely served to give you a mental ‘break’ so to speak. My problem with them was how artificially and systematically they were placed within the movie itself. Thanks for the comments. Glad you enjoyed our discussion, we did as well :)

      1. Yes, see I didn’t feel or see that at all. To me
like it was your normal use of photography within a film, and no more forced or artificially placed than any other film. When I watch again I’ll make sure to keep eye out to see if they are as systematic as you put it, but I don’t completely feel systematic is a bad. Especially when someone can create an systematic style then purposefully break it gain a greater emotional impact.

  2. Another great episode guys! Really loving the discussion. Personally I’d love to see a Westworld remake. If we can make Jurassic World, we can make Westworld 2: EuroWestworld.

  3. I’d love to see another Dirty Harry Movie staring a really old Clint Eastwood.

  4. Another reason to check out 12 Years a Slave! I really need to see this. Stupid life getting in the way. Divergent is actually a good book. I would recommend reading it. Not sure
    about the movie though.

All I can say is no more remakes! A sequel to an older film? Maybe Top Gun 2. That could be cool.

  5. I feel like I am the only person in the world that wasn’t blow away by 12 Years a Slave. I’m not saying its bad, just didn’t have that wow impact it had on mostly everyone else. Maybe it was due to the slowness like you all mentioned.

    1. No, you are not the only person. I have heard others say that as well. Obviously no film will please everyone. We did try to not just lay praise all over it as well, and look at some of the faults as well. Hopefully you felt we were at least honest with our criticism.

  6. This isa 90’s movie, but why not a remake of Super Mario Bros. It can’t be any worse can it. Or another Die Hard movie..oh wait.

  7. Getting SPECTER back for James Bond is huge. Phillip Seymour Hoffman would be perfect as Blofeld.

  8. Goonies never Die! Let’s get a Goonies sequel. Oh and I agree Maleficent looks spectacular.

  9. Very good discusion on the best movie so far in my book. Do you ever give grades or ratings with your reviews? I’m sucker for star ratings or grades.

    1. I haven’t been listening lately, but if they rate stuff they’ll be using the GCRN Universal Ratings System. We came up with this to be used in most if not all podcasts and written reviews.

    2. Since these are ‘non-spoiler’ reviews we are attempting to only give our opinion on if someone should see it or not etc – Dan put actual ratings on his written reviews as would I if I ever had time to do them! We could start some type of rating to coincide with these though if enough people would prefer that.

      1. Maybe a system exclusive to Weekly… where you guys say See in Theaters is a must, or a wait til media release is ok….? Just thinking out loud here.

      2. I would like if you all could give a rating as well. Sometimes the discussions won’t will indicate how you actually feel completely so a rating helps

  10. Noah looks weird. I have a feeling it will be a mess. Regarding sequels or remakes I’d love to see a sequel or remake to WIllow. One of my favorite fantasy movies of my childhood.

  11. They need to remake Time Cop. Like now. Just do it. Yes, use JCVD. IT will be the BESTEST MOVIE EVER

  12. I have continuously been majorly impressed with what this podcast has grown into. Some of the news stories you pick up I’ve never heard anyone else talking anything about. Like the Napoleon movie? Holy crap does that sound cool.

You know what would be cool. A sequel to This is Spinal Tap.

    1. A sequel to Spinal Tap could be cool. Like a “Where are they now or Behind the Music type of thing”

  13. Still waiting on 12 Years a Slave. Can’t wait to see it though. Anyone think a sequel of Ferris Bueller’s Day off could be good? I think so.

    1. That’s not out of the question. But a John Hughes movie without John Hughes? That would be hard to pull off right.

  14. Anyone think a sequel of Ferris Bueller’s Day off could be good? I think so.

  15. It’s been talked about but a Bill and Ted sequel could be cool. You know what, a remake of Big could be interesting. It could hit on how childhood has changed since the original.
