TFG1MIKE 365 – 2019 Day 62

Facebook Messenger’s Dark Mode!

Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 62nd entry, I’ll be talking about Facebook Messenger’s  NEW Dark Mode or Dark Theme. Since the beginning of the internet, we have always had instant messaging capabilities… the earliest ones I can remember are ICQ, MSN Messenger AIM, and Yahoo. I used AIM maybe once, I was mainly a MSN or Yahoo messenger user. These days we have Twitter mentions and direct messages, as well as Facebook Messenger! So let’s talk about the FB messenger Dark Mode shall we?

The regular LIGHT mode is shown above, and the NEW DARK Mode is shown below. The quote from the article I have below, is the first time I had heard of messenger having a night or dark mode. My eyes thanked Mark Zuckerberg so hard once I turned Dark Mode on. I generally keep my Samsung Galaxy S9 in Night Mode most of the time, because the black background with white text is somehow easier on my eyes. I’m sure there’s some scientific explanation for it, with light refracting… Et cetera Et cetera. My light sensitivity can be a very low tolerance at times, I guess I’ve turned into a cat, because I prefer trying to see in the dark, rather than the light. Yet I prefer natural light over actually have lamps and such turned on. Apparently Facebook has been working on Dark Mode for messenger since last year, and now it’s finally here. I was instantly a fan.

“As it turns out, Facebook has included an Easter egg in Facebook Messenger that activates Dark Theme without really resorting to too many additional steps. All you have to do is send a crescent moon emoji ( 🌙 this one, specifically) to anyone in chat in Messenger, exit out of the app completely and enter back again. Then, long press on the sent moon emoji, and you will have the dark mode toggle pop up on your settings screen. It sounds silly, but it works.” – These have been instructions on how to turn the new Dark Mode on quoted from this article HERE!

I am hoping that Facebook itself get a Dark Mode for the website and the app… I know there are third party plugins that will do this on the website itself, but I’m waiting for whatever Facebook does next.

Do you like the look of the new Dark Mode? Will you be using the new Dark Mode in Facebook Messenger? Let me know in the comments below.

Join me tomorrow morning March 4, 2019 as I’ll be writing about how to make your Monday better.
