OH NO! NOT NOSTALGIA!

Hello all and welcome to a NEW Daily Blog series from me… TFG1Mike! The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. In my 48th entry, I’ll be talking about Nostalgia!

Why is nostalgia such a bad thing? I know personally why it’s a good thing, but I know several people that basically discount nostalgia altogether. Hell Hollywood gets paid on nostalgia, because new fresh ideas apparently don’t make enough money!

I do love living in the moment, and focusing on what’s going on currently. However nostalgia rules my heart, because personally I feel the stuff that we had when I was growing up is better than the stuff we have today. There are a few exceptions to this, but I just love going back and seeing an old movie or TV show, listening to music from the 80s and 90s, and more. It’s all about what has made an impact on people, and once that happens to tend to hold onto those things. I think of certain TV, movies, video games, and comics as snapshots from the past. It’s like looking at any photo album you’ve created. Those pictures in that album of those family members, friends, adventures, whatever it may be… Those are the moments of your life, and it’s the same with nostalgia for older media.

A song, a moment in a tv show, book, comic, or film, when it hits you in that one moment, it can truly be powerful. Being creative and the creations that the entertainment industry has given us over the past 6 decades or more is just amazing. The art of storytelling can be very compelling. We identify with characters we are introduced to, which is why nostalgia for them is a thing. There are songs that make me think of my Mom, and I find that to be a good and bad thing. There are movies that I watch over and over again, because my Mom showed them to me first, and I think of her at times when I watch them. I do this not just with memories of my Mom, but with everything that has transpired in my life. If something makes me think of a memory from 10, 20, or 30 years ago… why is that a bad thing? I view these things in the time that they were created. I don’t compare them to the media of today.

Are you a nostalgia buff, or are you a in the now type of person? Let me know in the comments below!

Join me tomorrow morning February 18, 2019 as I’ll be writing about playing Video Games one handed!
